Berita Harian, 7 Nov 1965: pregnant teenage woman 'confesses' (Lubang Buaya)
Berita Harian, 7 Nov 1965 (UPI, lead only). Repeats the army newspaper Angkatan Bersenjata: a pregnant teenage woman 'confessed' she took part in hacking and mutilating a bound, blindfolded army general during the coup attempt. An early instance of the Lubang Buaya sexual-slander narrative in the regional press.
Drakeley's 2007 article analysing the army's Oct-Dec 1965 psywar 'Lubang Buaya horror story' as a misogynist attack on Gerwani and a driver of the killings, tracing escalating claims in Angkatan Bersendjata, Antara and others, including the 'confessions' of Djamilah, Sujati and Saina. Core analysis of the slander.
Women suppressed, women resisting (Historia, 2018)
Historia feature (2018) on how the New Order subordinated the women's movement after 1965, branding politically minded women 'like Gerwani' and portraying Gerwani as beautiful but cruel, and how independent organising revived from the 1980s. Draws on Suryakusuma and Murniati.
