Women denounce Reds
JAKARTA, (AAP). Ten thousand women yesterday denounced the Communist women's front, Gerwani, as a disgrace to Indonesian womanhood and demanded its dissolution, United Press International reported. The women's protest came as the Army disclosed that it had captured Communist documents revealing the existence of a terrorist organisation created for sabotage and political assassination.
DEMONSTRATION
The women – housewives, students and actresses – began their demonstration outside the headquarters of Maj-Gen. Suharto, commander of the army. With bands playing and batons twirling, they then marched to the headquarters of the National Front. Here they presented a petition demanding dissolution of Gerwani and the Government operation of Communist-taught schools. The petition was accepted by General Djuhartono, deputy to the National Front secretary general, who urged leniency in condemning those sympathising with the October 1 coup bid.
