INDONESIAN WOMEN HAD PART IN CONGRESS
For the first time in history Indonesian women took part in an international conference at Bali when the United Nations Information South-East Asian Regional Conference for Non-Governmental bodies took place recently.
Miss Beryl Wright, who represented the Australian Federation of University Women at the conference, and who returned to Sydney during the week, said that Indonesian women were keenly interested to know what women were doing in other parts of the world.
Equal Pay
"When I told some of the women that I was earning four-fifths of a man's salary for the same work, they were amazed," Miss Wright said. "They are well to the fore with the idea of equal pay for equal work."
She added that 40 women, including five Australians, from nine countries had been among the hundred delegates to the conference.
"The value of the conference lay not so much in the 34 resolutions passed, which were of a very general nature, but in the international contacts made by these people who for more than a week lived and worked together, and the better understanding this will promote," emphasised Miss Wright.
