Over' 200 women from ail over Australia, from many walks of life, and representing many organisations, participated in this deputation, lobbied Federal Members and expressed their demands in no uncertain way. s This willingness to join in $ the struggle for a better and % peaceful life was again ex- j pressed at the Australian Con- l vention on Peace and War, at \ which over one third of the j delegates were women. 4 1953 saw a number of Aus-j tralian women sent overseas by s their organisations to Confer-? ences and Congresses on Peace, \ Defence of Children, Youth jt Festival, and the more recent < Congress of Women at Copen- j; hagen. £ Australian women represen- 2 tatives will doubtless attend 7 the Indonesian women's con- j 11 gress conference in Indonesia 5;» to be held shortly. $ • I Women also united in in-? numerable campaigns round such local needs as tetter schools, healthier beaches, cheaper milk. They also took part in a /campaign for equal pay for women workers, as expressed in ACTU September Congress resolution. And today, Australian women;; stand alongside their menfolk in the campaigns for the de-feat of the Menzies Government and its war policy, and, for higher wages and lower 5 prices, for better living con- J ditions, for freedom and peace. -
