(From one of our reporters)
On Monday morning at nine o'clock the PKI held a large public meeting at Tegallega, attended by tens of thousands of interested people. As at all other meetings of this party, this time too the symbol of the sickle and hammer dominated the field.
Eddy Abdurrachman and Mrs. Suwarti stepped forward as opening speakers, both candidates in the elections for this party. In his speech Abdurrachman put the emphasis on colonialism and on the importance of national unity. Mrs. Suwarti brought forward the more specifically female interests.
The greatest interest was directed at D.N. Aidit, secretary-general of the PKI.
Speaking about the struggle of the PKI and the members of this party who died in the Netherlands-Indies period, the Japanese period and the Republican period alike, Aidit criticised the governments after the R.T.C., i.e. the Hatta government and the Soekiman cabinet. Concerning the Madiun affair he expressed his disappointment that persons such as Musso and Sjarifuddin were sentenced to death without any form of trial, while Sultan Hamid and the R.M.S. members, on the other hand, stood trial in a months-long proceeding.
