Text

The Gerwani (Indonesian Women's Movement), West Java branch, has in an open letter expressed its appreciation for the work of the police in connection with the Tengku Angkasa affair. In its statement, however, the Gerwani is of the opinion that as long as the natural resources are still governed by foreign capital and the daily needs of the people are a plaything of it, while the prices of these needs rise daily, the possibility of an expansion of prostitution always exists. The Gerwani therefore hopes that the police will support the people in their struggle for a just and prosperous society and for the elimination of the power of foreign capital in the political and economic field, as well as for the lowering of the prices of daily necessities. Only in such a society will there no longer be prostitution, according to the opinion of the Gerwani.
