=== [Page 1] === The standpoint of the PNI on the formation of the Sundanese Youth Front was explained to us through its West Java secretary, Mr. Rivai. The PNI wishes to preserve the homogeneity of the Indonesian people within the unitary state. It therefore regards such a current as contrary to the ideology to which its party adheres. With regard to developments in the daerahs, the PNI advocates extensive autonomy within the framework of the national unitary state and regards a bicameral system as unnecessary. It has been shown that through general elections the daerahs are sufficiently represented in parliament. That they can also by this route put forward their specific wishes and desires for the daerahs has clearly emerged from the general debates on the government statement, where, for example, A.A. Achsien of the NU, originating from West Java, draws attention to the security question in West Java and Mrs. Ch. Salawati (PKI) from Sulawesi draws attention to the security problem in the latter daerah. The autonomy that the PNI proposes must, however, be of such a nature that [Unreadable] in connection with the uneven development of the various daerahs [Unreadable] bring to a higher level of development. Furthermore the PNI has forbidden its members to take part in the Sundanese movement.
