By general vote
After the announcement of the composition of the National Council, the Minister of Information, Soedibjo, declared, when asked, to the press that the composition and personnel of the National Council were accepted by the cabinet by general vote, after the cabinet itself and also together with the president had studied the matter thoroughly.
To the question whether the names of the members of the National Council are in accordance with the president's concept, the minister declared that the announced names originate from both the president and the cabinet. But it can be stated with certainty that no horse-trading was done in this.
It is not yet known when the National Council will be installed.
Amendments
Before complete agreement was reached between the president and the cabinet with regard to the composition and personnel of the National Council, the cabinet first made known its wish regarding the replacement of some names as established by the president during his stay in Tawangmangu.
The cabinet decided this in its session of Tuesday evening last, of which the president was informed on Wednesday afternoon.
The cabinet carried out these changes in some names in order to approach the wishes of the regions, as was made known to Premier Ir. Djuanda when he recently paid a visit to some regions, and as was also expressed through members of parliament in the general debates on the recent government statement.
Through these amendment proposals from the cabinet side the president considered it necessary to attend the cabinet session on Friday evening, in order to arrive, through direct consultation with the cabinet, at a speedy agreement with regard to the composition of the National Council.
All this therefore means that the composition of the National Council as announced last night is no longer the same as originally established by the president.
