=== [Page 1] === In a radio speech Moeso said among other things: "Our revolution is under national-communist leadership. It turns against imperialism in general. This imperialism is the main cause of the worsening of the political and economic situation in the republic and of the powerlessness of the people and the workers in particular to raise themselves out of the misery that is the consequence of Dutch and Japanese domination. More than 20 million Indonesian women have become widows because their husbands became 'romusha' in the Japanese period. Soekarno now lets the Indonesian people choose between Soekarno and Moeso. The answer of the people is: Soekarno and Hatta are servants of Japan and America," said Moeso. "It will be extremely difficult to reconquer Madiun, unless the Republican sixth division, which is stationed in the eastern part of the Republican territory, provides support in time," declared a Republican observer in Batavia. The command of the sixth division is located about a hundred kilometres north-east of Madiun. Flight to Dutch territory About 7000 evacuees, originating from the dessas in the vicinity of the sub-district of Tjikalong south of Tasikmalaja, betook themselves to Karangnunggal to place themselves under the protection of the Dutch armed forces, since their dessas are continually attacked by terrorists. The government has already taken measures to alleviate their suffering, in the form of a few tens of tons of rice.
