'Wij betalen de rekening niet' ('We do not pay the bill')

Ook in Semarang is thans een definitief comité van actie gevormd om te protesteren tegen de tariefsverhoging van de Aniem. Dit geschiedde gistermorgen op een vergadering in het Gedong Rakjat Indonesia in kampong Gendong, een vergadering die werd bijgewoond door vertegenwoordigers van 38 verschillende vak- en andere organisaties, partijen en buurtverenigingen. Tot voorzitter van het „Panitia Penentang Tarip Aniem" werd dr. Rustamadji van de Partai Rakjat gekozen. Op de vergadering werd uitvoerig tegen de tariefsverhoging van de Aniem geprotesteerd. De vertegenwoordiger van de Sobsi merkte hierbij op, dat het in feite niet zozeer de Aniem is die verantwoordelijk is, als wel de regering die de R.T.C.-overeenkomst aanvaardde die tot al deze ellende leidde. In het gevormde „Panitia Penentang Tarip Aniem" hebben o.a. zitting vertegenwoordigers van de Partai Rakjat (de partij van Bung Tomo), 't Front Pemuda Indonesia, de Gerwis, de Sm You She, de [Unreadable], Sobsi en de pusat Rukun Tetangga. Besloten werd om twee afgevaardigden naar Djakarta te zenden om daar deze aangelegenheid te bespreken. De kosten van deze afvaardiging zullen door inzameling bestreden worden. De kampong Mlatihardjo heeft reeds f 50.— gegeven. Voorts werd besloten om in afwachting van de uitslag van deze poging de Aniem-rekeningen niet te betalen. Zoals de heer Ritonga zei: „Wie wel betaalt, is een verrader." Deze boute uitspraak lokte echter toch protesten uit. Afgesneden worden is ook zo leuk niet......
