=== [Page 1] === — THE SALATIGA branch of the I.A.A.-P.L.F. union of armed forces personnel outside the formation has submitted a request to the competent authority to be allowed to set up a night security service, whose task would be to cooperate with the existing authority apparatus in ensuring security. The body would bear the name P.M.A. (Polisi Malam Algemeen [General Night Police]). With this the union also aims to provide work for its members, whose number is approximately 1000. — IN CONNECTION with the threatening shortage of seed potatoes of the Dutch variety, whose supply has currently stopped, the Agricultural Extension Service at Salatiga has decided to buy up the Dutch potatoes in the villages (dessa's) of Kopeng and Somowono, where the population is currently harvesting. The intention is that these purchased tubers will first be stored until they sprout, after which planting will begin in February for the East Monsoon crop. As is known, Kopeng and Somowono are good potato districts. — THE SALATIGA branch of Gerwis (Gerakan Wanita Indonesia Sedar) [Gerwis, forerunner of Gerwani] held a well-attended meeting in the Pantirahardjo building, which was also attended by the local women's organisations. A few members of the central board had come over and spoke about the Labour Ordinance of 1948. By means of a motion the Gerwis urged the Government to apply article 13 concerning the protection of women workers, since in Gerwis's opinion this provision is simply being ignored by the employers.
