Groups from Sumatra take up arms against Masjumi
Seen off by 300 people, a delegation left Palembang on Saturday by aeroplane for Djakarta to hand over a joint statement to the central authorities.
The delegation consists of Messrs. M. Jurius of the PIR, Jatim Muntjar of the PNI, and M. Zaelani of the PKI [...]. [Garbled passage: the general elections should be held as soon as possible, and in order to prevent intimidation and provocation during the elections, careful preparation must be made for this.] Furthermore, the fight against corruption and bureaucracy is demanded, as well as the settlement of the Tandjung Morawa affair in the interest of the people.
The statement, which was formulated on Friday evening, was signed by six parties, namely the PIR, the PNI, the PKI, the Partai Buruh, Permti, Partai Murba, and 22 organisations, including the Sobsi, RTI, Sarbupri, Perbum, BTI, Pemuda Rakjat and Gerwis.
The statement says that experience has shown that a cabinet with the PNI and the Masjumi as its core is no longer possible. The signatories are therefore of the opinion that the cabinet, the formation of which has been entrusted to Mr. Wongsonegoro, must be democratic and parliamentary, and composed of representatives of the democratic groupings who carry out a programme that benefits the people, that is, the realisation of the decisions of parliament, vigorous action against terrorist bands [text breaks off]
