Text

In Jogja two committees for the 17th of August
On the initiative of the Jogja branch of SOBSI, a "17 August" committee has been formed there, in which sit representatives of various trade unions, of the "Front Pemuda", the PKI, PSII, Partai Murba, Sobsi, Barisan Tani Indonesia, Gerwis and a few other organisations.
In a statement on this, the Sobsi says that the committee came into being because the other committee, formed earlier on the initiative of the city administration, "is not of the nature desired by the people". It is said that the programme of this first committee shows that it only aims to "celebrate, without giving expression to the struggle of the people", while in addition its formation is not considered democratic. Nevertheless the new committee has decided to sound out the "official" committee about a possible "merger".
For the budget of the "official" committee an amount of Rp. 30,000 has already been set aside, of which Rp. 5,000 has meanwhile been paid in by the city administration as a contribution.
