Delegation to US embassy to protest
On the occasion of the second anniversary of the Korean war, 25 June, a delegation of organisations on Wednesday paid a visit to the American embassy in Djakarta in order to protest against the "bacteriological war waged by the Americans in the name of the UN" in Korea and to demand that all foreign armed forces be withdrawn from Korea so that the Korean people can take its fate into its own hands. The delegation was however not received by the American embassy, reports Sin Po. The delegation consisted of representatives of the committee for the defence of world peace for Indonesia, the SOBSI, the Front Persatuan Tani, the GERWIS, the Pemuda Rakjat, the Angkatan Pemuda Pembangunan, the committee of veterans in the whole of Indonesia, the Komite Mahasiswa Progressif and the Lembaga Kebudajaan Rakjat. The delegation was "without any reason" turned away by the American embassy and no one from the embassy wished to speak with the delegation. Instead the delegation was addressed by a representative of the DKPN, the service for supervision of state security of the police, whose protection had been called in beforehand by the embassy. The DKPN representative informed the delegation that the American embassy did not wish to receive the delegation and advised the delegation, if it still wished to make its opinion known, to do so in another way. Immediately after the incident the delegation sent a letter to the American embassy, in which sharp protest was made against this attitude. Further, Sin Po reports that the nine above-mentioned organisations sent a letter to the minister of foreign affairs, in which it was urged that Indonesia, as a member of the UN, actively try to bring about that the Korean dispute be settled peacefully; that an armistice be brought about; and that talks be held between the governments concerned to end the war and withdraw all foreign armed forces from Korea. The government is further urged that Indonesia, as a member of the UN, set up an investigation into the use of bacteria in the Korean war. Finally it is urged that Indonesia immediately sign the Geneva protocol. Both in the letter to the American embassy and in the letter to the minister of foreign affairs it was said that the struggle of the Korean people cannot be separated from the struggle of the Indonesian people for humanity and peace, so Sin Po.
