=== [Page 1] === Creators of the proclamation deliberate Last evening dozens of leaders of the generation of 1954 [sic; '45] met at the mayor's house to exchange thoughts about the external situation. The committee that had sent out the invitations consisted of Adnan Hasan [Adam Malik?; as printed: Adnan Hasan], Umar Sjarif and I. Djumala. Among those present were among others D.N. Aidit, Isa Anshari, Mrs. Trimurti, Dr. Sudarsono, Harsono Tjokroaminoto, Hasan Gayo, Suratno Sastroamidjojo, Rosihan Anwar and Ir. Sakirman. After Adnan Anas [sic] had opened the meeting, the leadership of the evening was handed over to Hanafi. He pointed out that although those present broadly belonged to the generation of 1954 [sic], one can with some right say that at this meeting the creators of the proclamation of freedom were present. Next the floor was given to Pak Wirjo, the proclamation mayor of Djakarta. He said that people first had to get to know each other better again. After the turbulent days of August 1945, when people could only meet illegally and sometimes hardly knew each other, they had lost sight of each other. Now, after about ten years, the situation in the fatherland is such that the people of '45 seek each other out again and deliberate on where we stand and where we are going. Masdani said that we may all differ in opinion but that one thing is certain: the divine moment of the proclamation of freedom. May that be the starting point for further discussions in closed circle. Soedjiro [Sudiro] said that he was only the host and took care of the food and the cutlery (with his wife and children). As a member of the generation of '45 he was glad that on this evening he saw Aidit (PKI) and Isa Anshary (Masjumi) smoking each other's cigarettes and that Isa sat between Soebadio (PSI) and Suwirjo (PNI). Sajuti Melik proposed that the speakers should also put forward the standpoints of the political parties of which they are members. In this way a meeting point can be found. Also Hatta [and others] must give their opinion on the matter, for they too belong to the people of '45. "If we agree that the duty the proclamation imposed on us has not yet been fulfilled, then we must now go and fulfil it," he said. Dr. Mustopo said that in any case agreement exists on these points: We do not want to be oppressed, we want to be one, we believe that the spirit of the proclamation of '45 still lives. He ended with the advice: Wees voorzichtig [Be careful], which he said in Dutch, meaning that one must be on one's guard against infiltration. The meeting was then adjourned so that people could sit down to the meal. Isa Anshari and Aidit, who sat eating next to each other, were a welcome target for the photographers. The meeting was then continued in closed circle. The results will be announced later.
