DJAKARTA, 15 Juli (P.I. Aneta). Intussen verneemt P.I.

=== [Page 1] === New demonstrations in West Java — Bandung demonstrators with President Sukarno JAKARTA [Djakarta], 15 July (P.I. — Aneta). — A delegation representing the PPDI (association of village heads), the Partai Buruh, PNI, PKI, Pilihan [Translator's note: name uncertain, OCR "Plnij"] Gerwis and Permai [Perhimi?], which parties held a large demonstration in Bandung on Sunday, has been to President Sukarno [Soekarno] to present to him the text of the open letter adopted at this demonstration. This open letter contains, among other things, a request to the President to issue a decree in which it is expressly stated that the D.I. [Darul Islam] and other bands are terrorists and enemies of the state, who must be exterminated by force. The three-man group was with the President for over ten minutes [OCR: "ruim ten uur" — sic]. The head of state declared that he personally agrees with such a decree, but said that for it the prior approval of the cabinet is needed, so the members of the delegation said. Meanwhile P.I. — Aneta learns that the above-mentioned organisations have taken steps to have demonstrations held everywhere in West Java by the population against the disturber of the peace. Other political parties and people's organisations too have been asked to take part in the demonstrations. The Badan Kontak Nasional, a liaison body of political associations and people's organisations (the PKI and its sister associations are affiliated with it), will hold a mass meeting on Sunday at Tegallega in Bandung, at which a resolution will be discussed relating to security problems and the cabinet crisis. Most probably a large demonstration will also be held to the Governor's residence with the same aim as the PKI and other associations had last Sunday. Meanwhile the Badan Kontak Nasional held a plenary session at which it was decided to give adhesion [support] to the demonstrations with the "open letter" that the demonstrators of last Sunday offered to the President, the Governor, the commander of the Siliwangi division and the head of the police for West Java. With regard to the formation of a new cabinet it was announced by the Badan Kontak Nasional that the cabinet must consist exclusively of "democratic and progressive elements", while it must be a "national unity front cabinet" supported by workers and peasants. Those who are not prepared to carry out earnestly the decisions taken or to be taken by the present parliament and to act earnestly to actually destroy the bands of the D.I., the T.I.I. [Tentara Islam Indonesia] and other terrorists, should in no case take seats [in the cabinet], so the Badan Kontak Nasional said.
