_ Daarom eist zij haar zonep "it Indonesië terug.

=== [Page 1] === 8 March International Women's Day — The courage of women! "Because the mothers were brave, because their heart did not fail." THESE lines of our great poetess Henriette Roland Holst are from the beautiful poem "Der vrouwen moed" [The courage of women]. The courage of women is inexhaustible. They bear in fear and pain the new life full of hope and expectation, which in a capitalist world cannot be fulfilled. In the years of the German occupation the women of our country showed their great courage when they protected their men, sons and fiancés against fascism. In the months of the hunger winter they went out to secure food for the family and displayed great courage in doing so. In the resistance women had an important share, and one of the first demonstrations against the German occupier in our country was that of the women. Daily the women of the working class wage a continuing struggle to achieve the best for their children. They go out to work to make the weekly deficit smaller. They live today still in the constant worry that capitalism offers humanity. The sons, men and fiancés are mostly far away in Indonesia. And the woman lives in fear whether he whom she loves above all will return healthy in body and mind. Today the woman of the people knows the worry about her child, who, through lack of school space and teaching staff, picks up insufficient knowledge. Today she experiences the fear that again a crisis with its disastrous consequences of unemployment and other misery will break out. Today she sees that not enough houses are being built in our country and she fears that the children, when they later want to form independent families, will not have living space at their disposal. Today the woman is filled with the constant worry that the arms manufacturers will succeed in unleashing a war again. * * * BUT today the woman also experiences the joy of the struggle for a world that will be free of fear and want. It is her love of life, her love of the child that gives her the courage to take part in the struggle that will bring about a better world. And the woman knows that that better world will not arise just anywhere, but will be the result of her own struggle here, together with the men. That is why she also wants to wage the struggle in our country for better wages and lower prices, for the building of houses, schools and hospitals. That is why she also wants to fight in our country for the possibility of creating work and prosperity for our people. That is why she demands her sons back from Indonesia. * * * TODAY millions of women celebrate International Women's Day. On this occasion the Women's International Democratic Federation [Internationale Democratische Vrouwen-federatie] has addressed an appeal to the women of the whole world. In it women are called upon to unite their forces in the struggle for Peace, Democracy and Social Justice. The Dutch women will heed this appeal. For this the courage of the women of the working people is our guarantee.
