Unie eenzijdig opzeggen DJAKARTA, 2 Juli.

=== [Page 1] === Unilaterally terminate the Union DJAKARTA [Jakarta], 2 July. – The committee of the cooperating Indonesian parties has asked the Indonesian government to declare the Dutch High Commissioner, Count Van Bylandt, persona non grata. The committee comprises 31 parties and organisations, among them the Partai Nasional Indonesia (the largest of the government parties), the Partai Komunis Indonesia, the Partai Serikat Islam Indonesia, the Nahdatul Ulama, the Partai Indonesia Raya, the Parindra, the Perbepsi, the Gerwani and the SOBSI. The cooperating parties and organisations are further of the opinion that the Indonesian delegation at the talks in The Hague must be recalled if it appears that the sensational speech of Count Van Bylandt on 25 June indeed expresses the standpoint of the Dutch government. They are of the opinion that the Union with the Netherlands should be terminated unilaterally by Indonesia and that an administration for West Irian (New Guinea) should be formed as soon as possible. "The statement of the High Commissioner, made at a moment when the Indonesian government is trying to find in a peaceful way, namely through talks, a solution for the dispute between the Netherlands and Indonesia, can be regarded as a challenge and means interference in Indonesian domestic affairs" – thus the communiqué of the cooperating parties and organisations. Protest of Van Bylandt The news agency Antara reports that Count Van Bylandt has meanwhile protested to the Indonesian government against some articles in the paper "Suluh Indonesia". In them it was likewise demanded that the Dutch High Commissioner be declared persona non grata. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague no confirmation of this report could be obtained this morning.
