Text

=== [Page 1] === Meanwhile preparations continue in Indonesia for what President Sukarno will announce next Tuesday in Djokjakarta [Yogyakarta] about further steps regarding West Irian. As reported in some of our editions, the president on Thursday addressed the congress of the "Gerwani", the large progressive women's movement of Indonesia, and sharply rejected the Luns policy. Sukarno called "violence probably the only language that imperialists understand, for which reason Indonesia can achieve its national aspirations only by means of a policy of confrontation." Sukarno underlined that he was not speaking about inviting the Netherlands to negotiations and that he was likewise not making statements with the aim of helping to remove the conflict from the world through Indonesian-Dutch negotiations. "It remains to be seen whether there will be any question of negotiations," said the Indonesian president. Sukarno called on the Indonesian people to mobilise its national potential, of which the unity between nationalists, religious people and communists is the main pillar.
