Indonesië: protest tegen vervolging vrouwenbeweging 'Gerwani'

Met ontsteltenis en verontwaardiging heeft de Nederlandse Vrouwenbeweging kennis genomen van de terreur tegen de Indonesische vrouwenbeweging „Gerwani" en tegen verscheidene andere democratische organisaties. Aldus schrijft de NVB in een brief aan de Indonesische president Sukarno. „De „Gerwani" en andere thans vervolgde organisaties hebben een grote rol vervuld bij de Indonesische revolutie en de opbouw van Uw land, waarvoor U zelf Uw waardering bij herhaling hebt uitgedrukt", schrijft de NVB. Zij voelt zich gedrongen met kracht tegen de vervolging te protesteren en er op aan te dringen de vrijlating van alle politieke gevangenen en de opheffing van het organisatieverbod voor de „Gerwani"- en andere democratische organisaties te bewerkstelligen.

Thus writes the NVB in a letter to the Indonesian president Sukarno. "The 'Gerwani' and other now persecuted organisations have played a great role in the Indonesian revolution and the building up of your country, for which you yourself have repeatedly expressed your appreciation", writes the NVB. It feels compelled to protest forcefully against the persecution and to urge that the release of all political prisoners and the lifting of the ban on organisation for the "Gerwani" and other democratic organisations be brought about.
