[Beginning missing] The Indonesian press has not yet written about this written document addressed to the judges. Greater publicity would certainly discredit Suharto's position further. The military dictator and the generals surrounding him are coming under heavy pressure in their own country and also from abroad. Under that pressure they have begun releasing political prisoners, but place most of them still under house arrest. Many tens of thousands moreover threaten in the short term to be transferred to remote islands to live there "in freedom". A smaller group of communists, a so-called newly formed group X, would not be eligible for any release. The right-wing generals are now above all attempting to place communists in an isolated position through all kinds of intimidation. Thus the army paper Berita Yudha reported on 7 July that an indictment has now been drawn up against Tanti Aidit, wife of the PKI chairman murdered in 1965. She worked in Djakarta as a doctor and was arrested after Suharto's coup of 1965; since then she has stayed in various [prisons]. [Unreadable] As a public indictment [Unreadable] a trial will be [held] [Unreadable] on the accusation that she, [as an executive board] member of the women's [organisation Gerwani], was involved in the "30 September Movement of 1965". [Unreadable] The communist party [cannot be removed] from the history of the Indonesian people and [Unreadable] to isolate. It has since [Unreadable] with commitment and great [sacrifice] fought Dutch colonialism [Unreadable] acted, as to this day, for the unity of [all forces] against imperialism and feudalism. In the generals' clique unrest grows, over the developments [in the cities], but even more [over] the countryside, where the majority of the Indonesian people live. Many economic plans [for] the peasants have been made, but not [implemented]. Rice production lags behind, the peasants are [being] driven [from their land]. Recently a new decree was [issued] for "cooperative [Unreadable]", which [gives] central [control] over the countryside [Unreadable]. All political [activities] in the villages are banned [Unreadable] cannot be prevented either there, whatever the orders of the generals from Djakarta may be [Unreadable]
