Text

Tanti Aidit had absolutely nothing to do with the coup organised by the CIA, just as other progressive people had nothing to do with it. Her only crime was her membership of the executive board of the Indonesian women's organisation Gerwani. And like her Gerwani sisters, Suharti, Sudjinah and Shri Ambar, she had to pay for it. A good year ago it became known that — after twelve years of imprisonment — there would be a trial against Tanti Aidit. That trial is now not going ahead and it is clear why not: nothing can be brought against Tanti Aidit. A trial could only provide the proof that she had been imprisoned innocently all that time.
