=== [Page 1] === In "Krasnapolsky" in Amsterdam a public meeting was held on Saturday afternoon under the title: "Indonesian minorities accuse". The speakers were Messrs. J. Verboom, L. Polhaupessy, Vigeleynmaksjulien, Undapen Zacharias. They represent the Dutch nationals in Indonesia, the "Great East", Ambon and Timor. The meeting adopted the following motion: "A thousand visitors to the public meeting in 'Krasnapolsky' in Amsterdam on Saturday 5 Nov. 1949 protest with indignation against the forced incorporation of hundreds of thousands of Dutch subjects, in particular of the Persatoean Timoer Besar, into the R.I.S. [United States of Indonesia]. They demand the right of self-determination for these peoples, in accordance with the responsibility and conscience of the nation. They demand of the Dutch government that it not transfer sovereignty in the areas concerned before these peoples have been given the opportunity to show, by a plebiscite, which political status they desire." [Fragment of another item, beginning missing:] ...and took hostage. A few days afterwards the body was found. The gang appears to have been under the leadership of the female council member at Makassar, Salawati Daoed [Salawati Daud], who drove there in a municipal car. A few companies of soldiers have meanwhile begun an operation in the difficult terrain, in which six gang members were arrested. The head of the daerah, the prince of Bone, personally inspected the situation. The government of East Indonesia expressed its regret and declared that action against the gang is being continued with the greatest resolution.
