The republican information service for Sumatra reports, according to radio Boekittinggi (Fort de Kock): "A few dishonest military authorities at Padang Sidempoean, Sibolga and Taroetoeng (in the Tapanuli region of Sumatra) have been arrested on the order of the chief of staff of the Keamanan of the T.N.I. (security service of the T.N.I.), under Tapanuli command.
During these arrests only a few shots were fired, in which a number of soldiers were killed, among them Captain Hasiboean, battalion commander at Padang Sidempoean. Otherwise the purge action proceeded quietly, according to a communiqué from the republican side. The population remained calm, civil and commercial traffic go their usual way. Among the fourteen [sic] authorities detained for further investigation are Messrs. Sitompoel and Dr. Amit Hoesein Siagan.
From Medan the correspondent of Aneta reported some days ago that in republican Sumatra the second "social revolution" had broken out.
Another version
The Aneta correspondent at Medan reports in connection with the events in Tapanuli that the "social revolution" is continuing, but that the communist Laskars have virtually taken the reins there. The T.N.I. is far in the minority in numbers in that area. Practically the whole republican "intelligentsia" in Tapanuli has been arrested by the communists.
TERRORISTS EXECUTED. Two terrorists, of the TNI and the BPRI respectively, who took part in July in raids on military posts in the vicinity of Salatiga, have been executed. During the raids they forced women from kampongs to walk in front to serve the terrorists as cover. As a result two Indonesian women were killed.
