'Comité Volkswens' (Panitya Kehendak Rakjat, Makassar 1951)

Acht sprekers voerden daar het woord: Jusuf Arief (Biro), Tular (PKI), Saleh (Sarekat Tani Indonesia), A. Hadjarai (Parindra), mevr. Towoliu (Gowani), een vertegenwoordiger van de Partai Murba, mevr. Salawati Daud en Jusuf Bauty (Biro). De eerste spreker deelde mede, dat het beroep der regering op de bevolking van Zuid-Celebes om mede te helpen geleid heeft tot de vorming van een „Comité Volkswens" (Panitya Kehendak Rakjat). Spreker las het doel van dit comité voor, dat door twintig volksorganisaties is gevormd en dat in deze kritieke toestand een even positieve stap wil doen als de regering. Het comité gaat uit van de gedachte dat een verbrokkeling van de nationale [Unreadable] met alle mogelijke middelen moet worden voorkomen. Het stelt met nadruk vast, dat Kahar Muzakkar c.s. niet op één lijn moeten worden gesteld met de [Unreadable] van de „RMS" of met Andi Aziz. Het comité heeft daarom faciliteiten verzocht om een aantal personen naar Kahar Muzakkar af te vaardigen, teneinde te trachten hem tot inkeer te brengen. In deze geest wil dus het Comité de regering naar beste vermogen bijstaan. Uit de andere toespraken kwam de wens naar voren om noodlottige gebeurtenissen, die het volk zullen treffen, te vermijden. Indien de ontwikkelingen leiden naar militair optreden, worde dat optreden met inachtneming van de belangen van het volk voorbereid en alles worde gedaan om zo min mogelijk slachtoffers te maken. Om niet andermaal de bevolking te plaatsen in een toestand waarin zij van de beide zijden klappen krijgt te incasseren.

The first speaker announced that the government's appeal to the population of South Celebes to help had led to the formation of a "Committee of the People's Wish" (Panitya Kehendak Rakjat). The speaker read out the aim of this committee, which was formed by twenty people's organisations and which in this critical situation wants to take as positive a step as the government. The committee proceeds from the idea that a fragmentation of the national potential must be prevented by all possible means. It emphatically states that Kahar Muzakkar and his associates must not be put on one line with the disturbances of the "RMS" or with Andi Aziz. The committee has therefore requested facilities to delegate a number of persons to Kahar Muzakkar in order to try to bring him to repentance. In this spirit the Committee wants to assist the government to the best of its ability. From the other speeches the wish emerged to avoid fatal events that will strike the people. If developments lead to military action, let that action be prepared with regard for the interests of the people and let everything be done to make as few victims as possible. So as not again to place the population in a situation in which it has to take blows from both sides.
