=== [Page 1] === Yesterday parliament began a new tradition, which however was already prepared a year and a half ago. With this new tradition the ministers will in future answer orally all written questions of the members of parliament in the plenary public session. [Garbled] Yesterday the ministers of [home affairs, finance, ...] information and justice were due to speak. Only the ministers of home affairs and finance spoke, since the session still had to vote on the dispatch of a mission to South Celebes, as proposed by the defence section. PIA further reported that the plenary session of parliament yesterday morning could not yet take a decision on the dispatch of the parliamentary mission to Makassar. The defence section had proposed sending four members and a secretary to Makassar. The section had nominated the following persons to form part of the parliamentary mission: Slamat Ginting (PNI), Mrs. Ch. Salawati Daud (PKI), A. B. Karubuy (Fraksi Persatuan) and K. H. Misoach (Masjumi). H. Senduk (Parkindo) and Mohammad Akib (Masjumi) requested that the question of the dispatch of a mission to Makassar first be discussed in the consultation committee. They further hold the opinion that the mission should not consist exclusively of members of the defence section, since the East Indonesian problem concerns not only military questions but also financial and economic questions. Abdul Hajat (Fraksi Pembangunan) declared that he shared the position of the defence section, while Subadio (PSI) proposed that the government should first be invited to make a statement to parliament about the events in eastern Indonesia before a parliamentary mission is sent there. In reply to the remarks of the speakers concerned, Slamat Ginting said on behalf of the defence section that this section had decided to send a mission to Makassar to learn more about the background of the events in eastern Indonesia and to prevent this question from dragging on, in particular since parliament will go into recess at short notice. If the plenary session can agree to the dispatch of this mission, then the mission will report to parliament on the task entrusted to it by 14 March at the latest, said Ginting. Finally Slamat Ginting said that the main cause of the events in eastern Indonesia must be sought in the military field and the other questions are only the consequences of this. The defence section is therefore of the opinion that it suffices to send only members of this section to Makassar, Ginting said.
