=== [Page 1] === The member of parliament Mrs. Salawati, of the PKI group, who is also a member of the defence section of parliament and who has paid a visit to Makassar, declared on her return to Djakarta that she would urge the defence section to make a routine visit to Atjeh, where security has already been restored. The results of this visit can then serve as a guideline for the restoration of security in South/Southeast Celebes, which has claimed enormous victims among the population. Asked about this, Mrs. Salawati declared that so far the defence section of parliament has not yet received a report on the development of the restoration of security in South/Southeast Celebes. As regards the last wishes of Kahar Muzakar and his followers with regard to the restoration of security and whether or not he is willing to heed the call of the state, these have not yet been reported to the said section, Mrs. Salawati said. It may further be mentioned that Mrs. Salawati, in the years 1950 and 1951, went into the forests to seek contact with the gang leader Kahar Muzakar and to persuade him to cease the struggle, but these attempts had ended in failure.
