Soeharto toe.

WOMEN CHEER SOEHARTO
DJAKARTA, Tuesday (Reuter, AP, NYT) — In the Indonesian capital Djakarta today a hundred thousand anti-communist demonstrators professed their loyalty to the armed forces and to President Soekarno. They demand a ban on the Indonesian communist party, the P.K.I. The demonstrators also called for the "crushing" of "international neo-colonialism, colonialism and imperialism" and a swift destruction of the Thirtieth of September Movement, which was behind the failed coup. Units of the Indonesian Army, supported by armoured cars, sealed off a densely populated old district of Djakarta and searched every house for weapons. This part of the city is inhabited mainly by Chinese. More than two hundred soldiers took part in the house-search operation. Passers-by were also stopped and frisked. WOMEN Thousands of Indonesian women held a demonstration in Djakarta against the communist party. They marched through the city to the headquarters of the National Front — a grouping of the Indonesian political parties. The secretary of the National Front read out a statement in which President Soekarno is asked to declare the P.K.I. illegal. Army commander Soeharto addressed the women; he asked for support for the army's action against the remaining remnants of the 30 September movement and thanked the women demonstrators for their expression of devotion to the army. The women, who represented Catholic, Islamic and nationalist organisations, cheered Soeharto.
