Toespraak Aidit

Aidit's speech
The high point of the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Partai Komunis Indonesia was a public meeting on the Merdeka square in Djakarta, at which the floor was taken by Mr D.N. Aidit, secretary-general of the central board of the P.K.I., Mrs Umi Sardjono, general chairwoman of the women's association "Gerwani", and Mr Astrawinata, judge in Bandung. Mr Aidit said in his speech, among other things, that the Dutch must leave Indonesia, so that the profits which the Dutch still make in this country can flow into the state's coffers.
The series of speeches was opened by Mr Astrawinata, who among other things explained the reasons why he has put himself forward as a candidate for the P.K.I. Mrs Umi Sardjono, who then spoke, made among other things a sharp attack on the feudalism which according to her still exists in Indonesia, as well as on large landownership.
The secretary-general of the communist party opened his speech, after a welcome to all present, by expressing Lebaran greetings to all Muslims. The speaker stressed national unity for overcoming colonialism. Aidit opposed the view that Islam, nationalism and communism cannot be one. "The history of our struggle has proved that unity between Muslims, Nationalists and Communists is necessary and possible." As proof the speaker cited, among other things, the example of cooperation between the Sarekat Islam, the P.K.I. and Gapi, the anti-Japanese front and the August revolution.
Rp. 1,675 per breath
Mr Aidit further explained how great the profits are that the Dutch take away from Indonesia every year, namely Rp. 10,500 million. So that all this profit can flow into the state's coffers, the Dutch must leave Indonesia, the banks, the enterprises, the mines, the harbours, the sugar factories. The speaker said that this profit can be measured by the following example: every time a Dutchman breathes, he earns Rp. 1,675. If these Dutch profits were divided among the farmers, everyone could get a cow every year.
Enemies of the people
At the end of his speech, which was now and then interrupted by loud applause, Aidit said that the P.K.I. will continue the struggle against the enemies of the people, namely the Dutch and the large landowners. In addition the P.K.I. will continue to fight for unity and against division. On the 35th anniversary of the P.K.I. the communists have promised that they will fight even more intensively for the realisation of two slogans: "Restore unity and fight division", and "If the Dutch take to their heels, the large landowners will raise their hands". Under Aidit's direction the slogans were then called out together by the whole crowd several times, after which Aidit asked them to carry these slogans to the desas, factories, offices, schools and everywhere. The 35th anniversary of the P.K.I. was celebrated for a week, among other things with sports events and an art performance in the Theatre, so we take from the daily "Harian Rakjat".
