=== [Page 1] === At the evening session the debate on the Sakirman motion was continued. Mr K. Werdojo (Ar[...]) declared that recognition of the government of Ho Chi Minh by the R.I. [Republic of Indonesia / R.I.S.] [...] more advantage than [...]. The speaker declared that he co-signed the motion of Ir. Sakirman, in the conviction that the struggle of the Vietminh runs parallel with that of the Indonesians, that the struggle of the Vietminh is an anti-imperialist struggle and that the government of Ho Chi Minh is borne by the people. "An agreement with foreign countries entered into by the R.I.S. may not stand in the way of this recognition. Only then can we say that the R.I.S. really conducts a free and independent foreign policy." Mr Mustapha (Labour Party) declared that the government of Ho Chi Minh is supported by the people, which is not the case with that of Bao Dai. "I see no reason not to proceed to recognition." Mr Jusuf Mudadalam [Jusuf Muda Dalam] said that a policy must be based on reality. "The government of Ho Chi Minh is a reality. The republic of Vietnam has been able to hold out for almost [...] years and controls 95% of the whole [of Vietnam]. The government of Bao Dai, on the other hand, was called into being and supported by the colonial French," [said] Muda Dalam. Mrs Moedigdio [Mudigdo] (P.S.I. [sic]) declared that precisely because the government bases its foreign policy on the "Pantja Sila", the R.I.S. must proceed to [recognition] of the republic of Vietnam. "A victory of Vietnam also means a victory of Indonesia, and a defeat of Vietnam means support for colonial elements in Indonesia." "We must not doubt, [and must support] the motion of Ir. Sakirman," said Mrs Moedigdio, adding that the recognition of the R.I. at the time by India meant great support for Indonesia's freedom struggle. "We must not bind ourselves to conditions of loans concluded by us, and in no case must those conditions hinder us in our foreign policy," said Mrs Moedigdio.
