Aktief in verkiezingen (Active in the elections)

Naar aanleiding daarvan, zal de eis van de vrouwen tol de waarborg van haar rechten overeenkomstig artikel 2 en 16 van de verklaring der Mense lijke recht van de V.N. bevredigend!> resultaten bereiken, indien de vrouwei aktief.zijn in de verkiezingen voor dl konstituante en de vorming van een gezonde regering, die in staat is aan de belangen van de vrouw tegemoet te komen en tot het treffen van voorwaarden tot realisering van de gelijkstelling van de rechten van de viouw met die van de man op politiek, ciaal en ekonomisch terrein. Het heeft geen waarde om nu te spreken over de status van de vrouw in het huwelijksleven, over dé huisT houding van de president, over het „first lady"-schap, indien niet tel zei f der tijd de vrouwen zich centreren op de strijd naar een de j mokratische huwelijkswet, aangezien het tegendeel slechts aanleiding kan zijn van ontaarding van het oorspronkelijk doel en het ontstaan van verdeeldheid onder de vrouwen. Destemeer aangezien de betekenis, de funktie en de noodzaak van „first-i lady" nog onbekend zijn voor de Indonesische gemeenschap. Wij wensen gelijkstelling van rechten, maar wij kunnen *r niet mee in-' stemmen wanneer een vrouw privileges worden verleend in het sociale en politieke leven, slechts door de positie van haar echtgenoot, en niet door haar "igen beleid. De kwestie is niet wie „first-lady" moet zijn, maar het bewaren van de eenheid van de vrouwen in het gezamenlijk streven naar een demokratische huwelijkswetgeving en een meer gezonde regering, zoals dat tot uitdrukking js gekcmen door de oveiwinning van het demokratische blok in de afgelopen verkiezingen voor de volksvertegenwoordiging, aldus de verklaring van het sekretariaat van het hoofdbestuur van de Gerwani. It has no value now to talk about the status of the woman in married life, about the household of the president, about the "first lady" position, if the women do not at the same time concentrate on the struggle for a democratic marriage law, since the opposite can only be a cause of degeneration of the original aim and the arising of division among women. All the more since the meaning, function and necessity of a "first lady" are still unknown to Indonesian society. We wish equality of rights, but we cannot agree when privileges in social and political life are granted to a woman only through the position of her husband, and not through her own policy. The question is not who must be "first lady", but preserving the unity of women in the joint striving for democratic marriage legislation and a healthier government, as was expressed by the victory of the democratic bloc in the past elections for the people's representation, according to the statement of the secretariat of the central board of the Gerwani.
