Voorzitterschap Constituante (Chairmanship of the Constituent Assembly)

Tot de aanwijzing vam ée voorzitter iis men echter nog niet gekomen. Besloten werd de verkiezing te doen plaatsvinden op de vergadering van hedenochtend, aldus meUdt PlA's correspondent telefonisch uit Bandung. De vergadering van maandagavond werd bijgewoond door 456 leden, terwijl vam de zijde van de regering aanwezig waren de minister van arbeid, Sabilal Rasjad, en de v ice-mi nis-ter van economische zaken, F. F. Urnbas. Tijdens deze vergadering werden vijf eaindidaten naar voren gebracht: 1) Prof. S. M. Abklin van de Partai Buruh, 2) K. H. Daohlan van de Natadatul Ulama, 3) Njoto van de PKI, 4) mr. Wilopo van de PNI en 5) mr. Muh. Yamin van de Gerakan Perabala Pantjasila, die candidaat werd gesteld door enkele kleine partijen. Na de indiening der candidaten! ijst werd de vergadering tien minuten geschorst, en na heropening bleek, dait drie der candidaten zich hadden teruggetrokken, te weten prof. S. M. Abidin, Njoto en mr. Muh. Yamin. Aamgenomen wordt, dat zij dit besluit hebben genomen teneinde het front vam Pantjasila en dat van de Islamietische groeperingen te versterken. Het gaat nu dus tussen twee can.lidaten, die respectievelijk het Islamietische front en het front van de Pantjasila vertegenwoordigen: K. H. Dachlan en mr. Wilopo. Op de vergadering van maandagavond heeft de Constituante voorts een comité gevormd, dat de verkiezing van de voorzitter zal regelen. Dit comité telt vijf leden, namelijk de heren Slame-t (PNI), Ali Rido (NU., Muh. Hidajait (Masjumi), Mayrengsay (Partai Katottk) en mevrouw Suwarti (PKI).

=== [Page 1] === Chairmanship of the Constituent Assembly On Monday evening the Constituent Assembly in Bandung met with as sole agenda item the election of a chairman of the body. The designation of the chairman has not yet been reached, however. It was decided to hold the election at the meeting this morning, reports P.I.A.'s correspondent by telephone from Bandung. The Monday evening meeting was attended by 456 members, while on behalf of the government the minister of labour, Sabilal Rasjad, and the deputy minister of economic affairs, F. F. Umbas, were present. During this meeting five candidates were put forward: 1) Prof. S. M. Abidin of the Partai Buruh, 2) K. H. Dachlan of the Nahdatul Ulama, 3) Njoto of the PKI, 4) Mr. Wilopo of the PNI and 5) Mr. Muh. Yamin of the Gerakan Pembela Pantjasila, who was put forward as candidate by a few small parties. After the submission of the list of candidates the meeting was suspended for ten minutes, and after reopening it turned out that three of the candidates had withdrawn, namely Prof. S. M. Abidin, Njoto and Mr. Muh. Yamin. It is assumed that they took this decision in order to strengthen the front of Pantjasila and that of the Islamic groupings. It is now therefore between two candidates, who respectively represent the Islamic front and the front of the Pantjasila: K. H. Dachlan and Mr. Wilopo. At the Monday evening meeting the Constituent Assembly further formed a committee that will arrange the election of the chairman. This committee has five members, namely Messrs. Slamet (PNI), Ali Rido (NU), Muh. Hidajat (Masjumi), Mayrengsay (Partai Katolik) and Mrs. Suwarti (PKI).
