President Soekarno on Saturday morning at the palace in Djakarta received the participants in a congress held by the Gewani [Gerwani], a women's organisation which is a continuation of the communist Gerwis. The communist Dutch member of the Second Chamber, Mrs Rie Lips-Odinot, on this reception expressed to the president the sympathy of "the peace-loving part of the Dutch people, which fully supports the national struggle of the Indonesian people". She expressed the hope that good cooperation and understanding between the Netherlands and Indonesia would arise and continue to exist. Soekarno said in his reply: "You speak of the ever-growing peace-loving part of the Dutch people that rallies behind the Indonesian national struggle. I hope that this part will keep growing and will make the political line of the Netherlands such that the Netherlands will arrive at the full understanding that as long as New Guinea is not returned to Indonesia, no good relationship between the Netherlands and Indonesia is possible." Mrs Lips answered to this that "the peace-loving part of the Netherlands completely justifies and supports Indonesia's claim to New Guinea".
