=== [PDF page 1] === Jakarta women danced as generals were murdered [Unreadable] Oct. 14 — [Unreadable] women danced naked in a circle as Communists murdered six generals and a lieutenant mistaken for Defence Minister Nasution, a police witness revealed here yesterday. [Unreadable] Chief Lt-Gen. Achmad Yani was dragged to the gate of his house [Unreadable] where he was [Unreadable] and his face and his finger-nails were torn out. The witness was aboard one of the trucks which members of the Communist Youth Front (Pemuda Rakjat) had used in their round-up of senior army officers on the night of Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. With them were the rebels and Air Force paratroopers of the Communist sympathiser, Air Vice-Marshal Omar Dani. He said 70 rebels had stormed Nasution's home where they found Lt. Pierre Tendean, Gen. Nasution's aide-de-camp, in the general's uniform. Lt. Tendean said "yes" when asked whether he was Nasution. He was manhandled on the spot, then thrown into a truck. Gen. Nasution's wife locked their bedroom door as her husband fled over the back wall. The rebels fired a machine-gun burst into their five-year-old daughter, then moved away. By 4.30 a.m. all six generals had been rounded up. [Unreadable] Gen. Sarjono [sic: Gen. Harjono], was wounded and [Unreadable] tortured [Unreadable] his own house, and [Unreadable]. [Unreadable] Lubang Buaya, near the Halim air base eight miles south of Jakarta, the generals and the lieutenant were slowly tortured to death as Communist women watched, the witness said. The bodies were tied together and hidden under a nine-metre-high pile of rubbish, earth and leaves, [Unreadable] until they were found by Army men. [Unreadable] the bodies [Unreadable] and seen by tens of thousands of horrified Indonesians in West Java. The coup, it is now believed, was to have turned Indonesia into a replica of People's China, timed as it was for Oct. 1 — the Chinese National Day — and the 17th anniversary of the first Communist rebellion in Java.
