The latest developments in the case: after the federal court in New York on 5 June rejected defence lawyer Bloch's request for a retrial, on the 6th he presented new evidence and asked the federal court in New York, the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court for a retrial. The federal court in New York and the Court of Appeals have now unreasonably rejected this request on the 8th and the 11th respectively. The Supreme Court will not decide until the 15th. On the 13th the Rosenbergs' defence lawyer again submitted to the US Supreme Court a request to stay the Rosenbergs' death sentence. The American National Committee to Secure Justice in the Rosenberg Case organised a mass meeting in central New York City on the evening of the 11th, at which Rosenberg's mother appealed loudly to President Eisenhower: "Do not kill them, they are innocent." She also said: "Last week this couple said: 'If we are killed, it is the murder of innocent people.' They told the truth." Professor Ephraim Cross of New York University denounced the US government's murder of the Rosenbergs, holding that such murder deals a severe blow to American justice and to people's hearts. At the meeting the committee announced it would organise a special "Freedom Train" from New York to Washington on Sunday. Those taking the train will join people from many other parts of the United States in demonstrating in front of the White House, demanding the Rosenbergs' release. The famous physicist Harold C. Urey said in Washington that the persecution in the Rosenberg case is an "insult to logic and justice." In Montreal, Canada, people held up slogans and banners demanding the Rosenbergs' release and demonstrated outside the US consulate. Partridge, chairman of the Canadian National Committee to Save the Rosenbergs, said that the committee "will continue to convey Canada's growing demand for the Rosenbergs' release to the representatives of the US government stationed in Canada." In Europe the call to save the Rosenbergs has spread everywhere. The Polish "Trybuna Robotnicza" published an editorial denouncing the plot of the American reactionaries to murder the Rosenbergs; the editorial pointed out that the struggle to save the Rosenbergs must be strengthened and every effort made to win victory for the forces of progress and peace. Prominent German religious figures have also risen to the Rosenbergs' defence. Pastor Wickert of the island of Rügen, in a letter, demanded that Eisenhower "not play deaf and dumb to the voices of millions of people around the world." Pastor Schmidt issued an appeal to all Christians to save the Rosenbergs. The West German bourgeois paper "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" commented: "The Rosenbergs' fate has gradually ceased to be a question of law and become a question of humanity." The French Catholic Committee for the Revision of the Rosenberg Verdict also raised its voice for rescue; a group of French writers also asked Queen Elizabeth to intercede with Eisenhower. The Dean of the Commonwealth [?] [英联邦大教长勃罗第] forwarded through the American embassy in London a letter to Eisenhower asking him to save the Rosenbergs' lives. In Brussels, a group of lawyers from various parties demanded the establishment of an international tribunal to retry the Rosenbergs' case. The World Congress of Women held in Copenhagen adopted a resolution appealing to Eisenhower to revoke the death sentence on the Rosenbergs. In the East, the Vietnamese "People's Weekly" also protested against the US government's decision to kill the Rosenbergs. The Indonesian General Trade Union [SOBSI], the Indonesian Gerwis [印尼觉醒妇女协会, Gerwis] and other organisations issued proclamations, telegraphed Eisenhower or wrote to the US embassy in Indonesia, demanding that the Rosenbergs' death sentence be remitted.
