ACWF gives a banquet for Mrs. Abdulgani and others [People's Daily 1956-09-30, page 2] Xinhua, 29th – The All-China Democratic Women's Federation held a banquet this evening to welcome the wife of Indonesian Foreign Minister Abdulgani, the wife of Indonesian Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Subandrio, the wife of the Second Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian parliament Arudji Kartawinata, the wife of the First Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian parliament Arifin, Mrs. Sudaman [苏达曼夫人], chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Women's Association [Perwari, 印度尼西亚民主妇女会], and the wife of Sukrisno [苏克里斯诺], deputy editor-in-chief of the Antara news agency. Deng Yingchao, vice-chairman of the All-China Democratic Women's Federation, at the banquet on behalf of the ACWF expressed heartfelt and warm welcome to the friends. She said that their visit brought the deep friendship of Indonesian women, which made us feel very excited and happy. She said that women of our two countries had both suffered oppression by colonialists, and in the struggle for national independence, defence of world peace and defence of the rights of women and children we have many common experiences. Through this visit the mutual understanding of the women of our two countries would be further increased and their friendship developed. She hoped the friends would feel as if at home, see whatever they wished, and point out at any time shortcomings in the work they saw. Deng Yingchao finally proposed a toast to the friendship of the women of China and Indonesia and to the health of the friends. Mrs. Abdulgani in her speech thanked the ACWF on behalf of the guests for the welcome. She said that they would take the impressions gained on this visit to the women of all Indonesia and strengthen the struggle of Indonesian women for peace. She proposed a toast to the health of the hosts of the banquet and the members of the ACWF. Attending as hosts were the wife of State Council Vice-Premier Chen Yi, the wife of Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Hanfu, the wife of Beijing Vice-Mayor Yue Songsheng, the wife of Burhan [鲍尔汉], president of the China-Indonesia Friendship Association, the wife of vice-president Hu Yuzhi, Zeng Xianzhi, secretary of the ACWF Secretariat, executive committee member Luo Shuzhang, heads of the ACWF departments and leaders of the Beijing Women's Federation, etc. The wife of Anwar Sani [安瓦·萨尼], counsellor of the Indonesian embassy, and others were also invited to the banquet. The distinguished guests came to China at the invitation of the All-China Democratic Women's Federation. They were warmly welcomed on arriving in Beijing this afternoon.
