Do not allow the United States to interfere in China's internal affairs
Asian and African peoples and public opinion firmly support our country's just struggle
[People's Daily 1958-09-20, page 4]
Xinhua, Jakarta, 18th – Indonesian workers' and women's organisations recently demanded that US forces immediately withdraw from the Taiwan area in order to guarantee peace in Asia. The Indonesian Women's Movement Association [Gerwani, 印度尼西亚妇女运动协会], in its statement on behalf of its 650,000 members, strongly protested American interference over Taiwan and the offshore islands of China. The Central Council of the Indonesian Railway Workers' Union recently, in a letter to US Ambassador Jones, "firmly demanded that American armed forces immediately and unconditionally withdraw" from Chinese territory. The All-Indonesia Rice and Tapioca Workers' Union also condemned American military provocation in the Taiwan Strait area.
Xinhua, Damascus, 18th – Shurbaji, secretary of the Damascus Congress of Mass Organisations, wrote on the 17th to Shi Gu, Chinese consul-general in Damascus, expressing determination to strongly support the Chinese people's struggle to liberate their own territory of Taiwan and the offshore islands. In the letter Shurbaji, in his personal capacity and in the name of the Congress of Mass Organisations made up of more than sixty mass organisations representing people of all strata in the city, expressed readiness to provide the Chinese people with any material and moral aid.
Xinhua, Karachi, 18th – The "Today" [Imroz] published an editorial today saying that Taiwan is a matter of China's internal affairs and the Chinese government has the right to liberate its own territory. Speaking of the question of recognising China, this paper said that in fact China must sooner or later be recognised, because no force can destroy its existence. It said that, apart from the United States, most countries favour recognising People's China.
Xinhua, Damascus, 18th – Salah Harthi [萨拉赫·哈尔塞], deputy imam of Oman, said in an individual interview here with a Xinhua reporter today: "The Omani people fully support the Chinese people's struggle against the war provocations and threats launched by the United States against the People's Republic of China and to liberate their territory from American imperialism and its agents. We consider any aggression against China to be aggression against us."
Xinhua, Cairo, 18th – Prince Cisse Zakaria Ibn Kainou [西塞·扎卡里亚·伊本·卡伊努亲王], one of the leaders of the Mauritanian Liberation Army, said here today: "There is no one in Africa who favours American troops being stationed in Taiwan, because the African people have a feeling of kinship with the Chinese people's heroic struggle." This French West African nationalist leader said in an interview with a Xinhua reporter: "Taiwan is part of China; this is indisputable. It is quite clear that Taiwan is being used by the imperialists as a base for aggression against China. We should do everything in our power to help the Chinese people liberate Taiwan."
