Reminiscing on old friendship at parting, deep feelings never to be forgotten: representatives of Indonesian people's organisations visit overseas Chinese awaiting ships home; the two sides talk cordially and point out that the peoples of the two countries will always be friends
[People's Daily 1960-03-07, page 6]
Xinhua, Jakarta, 5th – Representatives of some Indonesian people's organisations today visited West Java overseas Chinese who had gathered in Jakarta awaiting ships to return to China. They represented respectively the Indonesia-China Friendship Association, the Indonesian Women's Movement Association [Gerwani, 印度尼西亚妇女运动协会] and the Indonesian Mothers' Committee against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs. The representatives told the displaced overseas Chinese that the Indonesian and Chinese peoples will always be friends. They expressed the hope that after the overseas Chinese returned to China they would continue to maintain mutual friendship, and presented the overseas Chinese with coffee, tea, medicines and soap. The overseas Chinese were deeply moved by the Indonesian friends' concern. They said that they would always remember the deep friendship of the Indonesian people. The Indonesian friends talked cordially with the displaced overseas Chinese. The women representatives hugged tightly the overseas Chinese women who had lived in Indonesia for generations. Those visiting the displaced overseas Chinese today included Mrs. Mandaki [曼达基夫人], vice-chairwoman of the Jakarta branch of the Indonesia-China Friendship Association, the musician Sudanoto [苏达诺托] and Mrs. Sutisman [苏蒂斯曼夫人]. About a thousand displaced West Java overseas Chinese have already come to Jakarta to await passage on the second batch of ships sent by the Chinese government to take them home.
