Mrs. Arudji [阿鲁季夫人], chairwoman of the Indonesian Peace Committee and head of the women's department of the Indonesian Islamic Union Party [PSII], made a warm speech to these overseas Chinese. She stressed repeatedly: although certain powerful groups in Indonesia are trying every means to destroy the friendship of the Indonesian and Chinese peoples, no force can destroy this friendship. She said to the overseas Chinese with emotion: "You may be sure that after you return to the motherland you will always be our brothers and sisters." She also said: "The Indonesian people deeply know your feelings on departing from Indonesia. Everyone should be glad: we are sure we shall meet again. Either you will come to see us in Indonesia, or we shall go to China to see you." Mrs. Arudji and her husband – the former deputy speaker of parliament and chairman of the Indonesian Islamic Union Party, Arudji [Kartawinata] – had paid a friendly visit to China a few months earlier. Barlin [巴里温], representative of the Indonesia-China Friendship Association, and Mrs. Mandaki [曼达吉夫人], one of the leaders of the Indonesian Women's Movement Association, also made speeches to the overseas Chinese and took leave of them. The warm speeches of the Indonesian friends were from time to time interrupted by long applause from the overseas Chinese. A representative of the returning overseas Chinese also spoke to express heartfelt thanks for the sincere visit of their Indonesian friends. He said, "Many of us returning overseas Chinese were born and grew up here in Indonesia, and we contributed our share of strength to Indonesia's construction. We hope Indonesia will become a prosperous and strong country. But we are now being pressed by certain people in Indonesia, and so cannot live on in Indonesia. Therefore only by returning to the motherland can we have a bright future." He assured the Indonesian friends: "We shall continue to consolidate the friendship between the Chinese people and the Indonesian people." Next, the well-known Indonesian singer Dubin [杜斌] sang "Sinsin So" [辛辛梭, "Cing Cing Ling"?] and other famous Indonesian folk songs. This gathering vividly embodied the deep friendship between the Chinese and Indonesian peoples and lasted until evening. When the returning East Java overseas Chinese were travelling from Surabaya to Jakarta, representatives of the Surabaya branch of the All-Indonesia Central Organisation of Trade Unions, the Surabaya branch of the Indonesia-China Friendship Association and the overseas Chinese organisations there visited them and saw them off.
