Indonesian mass organisations appeal to government leaders, demanding rejection of the Chiang clique's illegal participation in the Asian Games and exposing the vicious role played by the Chiang clique in subverting Indonesia
Xinhua, 4th, Jakarta: Many Indonesian public organisations continue to voice opposition to the plot of the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique, at the instigation of US imperialism, to send representatives to take part illegally in the Fourth Asian Games to be held in Indonesia, and demand that the Indonesian government take measures to prevent this plot from being realised. The National Council of the All-Indonesian Central Organisation of Trade Unions [SOBSI], with more than three million members, recently telegraphed the Indonesian government leaders, hoping that prudent measures would be taken to prevent the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique and Israel from sending representatives to the Asian Games. The telegram said that letting them take part in the Games would not only weaken the lofty prestige of the Republic of Indonesia in the world peoples' struggle against imperialism and colonialism, but would also damage the friendship and solidarity that are growing stronger between Indonesia and the countries and peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America, especially the People's Republic of China and the United Arab Republic, which have steadfastly supported the Indonesian people's struggle against the Dutch colonialists. The Sixth National Congress of the Indonesian Peasants' Front [BTI], which closed on 29 July, adopted a resolution demanding that the Indonesian government refuse to let the Chiang Kai-shek clique and Israel send representatives to the Asian Games and resolutely implement the policy of recognising one China, namely the People's Republic of China. The Central Committee of the Indonesian Women's Movement Association [Gerwani] said in a recent letter to government leaders that the foreign policy of the Republic of Indonesia is to recognise only one China, which is the People's Republic of China. Therefore, the participation of representatives of the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique in the Games is inconsistent with Indonesia's foreign policy. The letter demanded that representatives of the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique be refused participation in the Asian Games. The Central Committee of the Indonesian Railway Workers' Union, with 70,000 railway workers, pointed out in a telegram to government leaders that the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique has consistently adopted a hostile attitude towards the struggle of the Indonesian state and people, and that letting it take part in the Asian Games would be inconsistent with Indonesia's Political Manifesto and line. The Indonesian People's Youth [Pemuda Rakyat] stated in a declaration of 14 July that letting the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique take part in the Asian Games would be inconsistent with Indonesia's foreign policy and with the interests of the Indonesian people's struggle against imperialism. The declaration also pointed out that the Indonesian people and youth have not forgotten what a vicious role the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique, at the instigation of US imperialism, played in assisting the Indonesian counter-revolutionary rebel groups in their activities to subvert the Republic of Indonesia. The declaration demanded that the government quickly take resolute measures to stop the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique from taking part in the Asian Games. The Indonesian Motor Vehicle Workers' Union, the Indonesian Autonomous Region Trade Union, the Plantation Workers' Federation, the Federation of Oil Workers' Unions, the Jakarta People's Youth and other mass organisations have recently written letters and sent telegrams to Indonesian government leaders, or issued statements, demanding that the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique be refused participation in the Asian Games. They pointed out that the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique has taken part in rebel activities aimed at subverting Indonesia. The 'Sports Weekly' [Olahraga Mingguan] stated in a commentary on 29 July that the demand put forward by Indonesian public figures to refuse the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek clique's participation in the Asian Games is reasonable. The commentary demanded that the government accept this view. (People's Database material)
