Regarding the unfair attitude towards the Chinese delegation at the World Congress of Women, the head of the Indonesian women's delegation issues a statement expressing great regret at the Indian delegate's anti-China clamour and the partiality of the presiding chair
Xinhua, Moscow, 30th: Mrs Umi Sazono [Umi Sardjono; 乌米·萨佐诺], head of the Indonesian women's delegation, speaking at the 29 June session of the World Congress of Women, made a statement on the anti-China clamour of the Indian delegate at the session and the unfair attitude of the session's chairs towards the Chinese delegation. Mrs Umi Sazono, on behalf of the Indonesian women's delegation, said in a statement on the incident at the morning session of 26 June: 'First of all, I wish to express our great regret that such an incident should have occurred at the World Congress of Women held in Moscow. We hope that such incidents will not be repeated in the future. 'Considering that the purpose of the Women's International Democratic Federation in convening this world-scale gathering is to seek ways of uniting the great majority of women throughout the world who are sincerely struggling for peace, national independence and social progress, we hold that this congress is not a proper place to raise questions that belong between two countries and that must be settled by the countries concerned. 'We are indeed very sorry about the attitude of the chair at the time. We consider that the chair's conduct was undemocratic and partial. Therefore, we consider that, for the matter to be handled properly, the chair should have asked the Indian delegate to withdraw the passage of her speech on the Sino-Indian border question. If she did not agree to withdraw that passage, the only correct course was to let the Chinese delegates also have an opportunity to explain their position on this question.'
