The Indonesian people give a ringing answer: confrontation, confrontation, and more confrontation Xinhua News Agency, Jakarta, 7th – In an editorial on the 7th, Harian Rakjat [Harian Rakyat] of Jakarta said: "We shall continue to regard the United States as the number one enemy of the Indonesian people," because the United States has placed itself in the position of the number one enemy of the Republic of Indonesia. Speaking of US President Johnson's recent statement to Indonesia that he would continue to follow Kennedy's policy towards Indonesia, the editorial pointed out: "This means continuing a policy hostile to the Republic of Indonesia. It means continuing the policy of opposing the Games of the New Emerging Forces [GANEFO] and of forcing the Republic of Indonesia to bow to the International Olympic Committee." The editorial went on to say that it also means that the United States continues to oppose Indonesia's confrontation of "Malaysia" and to force it to agree to or accept "Malaysia"; that the United States continues to undermine Indonesia's economy through the "International Monetary Fund" and terrorist action; and that the United States continues to intimidate Indonesia by suspending "aid" and sending the Seventh Fleet into the Indian Ocean. The editorial asked: "What attitude should we adopt towards this overbearing attitude of US imperialism?" It said: "We shall not only continue to confront 'Malaysia', set up with the assistance of the American Michelmore [Laurence Michelmore], but shall also confront the Seventh Fleet, SEATO and US imperialism with its military bases in the Philippines." The editorial concluded: "We are convinced that history has the right to decide who the final victor will be in the future, and the final victor will surely be freedom fighters like Indonesia, and can never be a vanguard of neo-colonialism like the United States." Xinhua News Agency, Jakarta – Indonesian people's organisations have stated in their New Year messages that they will continue to step up the struggle against US imperialism and neo-colonialism. The All-Indonesian Central Organisation of Trade Unions [SOBSI], in its New Year message, said: "The Indonesian people have recognised that their most dangerous number one enemy is US imperialism." It said the Indonesian nation would never waver before the US Seventh Fleet. It said that all the Indonesian people were unanimously determined to smash the neo-colonialism of "Malaysia" and suppress the counter-revolution at home. "Forward resolutely, never retreat!" The Indonesian Peasants' Front [BTI] said that its tasks in 1964 were to strengthen and expand the revolutionary national united front, to hold high the banner of "a gun in one hand, a hoe in the other", to smash the neo-colonialist "Malaysia" plan, and to strengthen and expand the anti-feudal peasants' united front. The People's Youth [Pemuda Rakyat] stressed that Indonesian youth and students would answer the challenge of US-led imperialism with still firmer unity. It called on its members to study Marxism-Leninism actively and seriously and to ensure that the People's Youth, as a reliable and loyal assistant of the Indonesian Communist Party, forms an alliance with the peasants. The Central Committee of the Indonesian Women's Movement Association [Gerwani] expressed support for the government's efforts to smash the neo-colonialist "Malaysia", answer the challenge of the US Seventh Fleet and carry out the government's programme. The Indonesian Peace Committee stressed in its New Year message: "The struggle for peace is inseparable from the struggle to eliminate the root of war – imperialism." The message said that the main task of the Indonesian peace movement in 1964 was to "further consolidate the New Emerging Forces and step up the struggle against the Old Established Forces."
