Chairman Aidit congratulates Indonesian women, calls for strengthened international solidarity and support for the anti-US struggle; warm celebration of International Women's Day on 8 March
Xinhua News Agency, Jakarta, 8th – According to the PKI Press Bureau last night, PKI Chairman Aidit, in a letter of greeting to Indonesian women on International Women's Day, called on revolutionary women cadres of Indonesia to go to the countryside and unite with poor-peasant women to struggle for implementing the Basic Agrarian Law and the Crop-Sharing Agreement Law, so as to raise agricultural production. Aidit said that people were celebrating International Women's Day at a time when the Indonesian people were determined, in the spirit of the bull, to wage all-out confrontation to smash "Malaysia" and resolutely overcome the current economic difficulties. The Indonesian people were struggling under the slogans "Our will is stronger than hunger" and "We love peace, but we love independence even more." Aidit said, "It is impossible for revolutionary women to win emancipation without the participation of rural women. Rural women are not only the majority among women but also the decisive productive force in raising food production. Therefore the women's movement should above all pay attention to mobilising rural women to take part in all kinds of activities, in order to carry out the Basic Agrarian Law and the Crop-Sharing Agreement Law. This is the absolute condition for the urgently needed increase in food production. Therefore revolutionary women in the cities should go to the countryside to help and strengthen the peasant movement, and revolutionary women cadres should unite with the peasants." Aidit said: "On International Women's Day we should also further strengthen international solidarity: first of all, support the struggle of the people of North Kalimantan for national independence, support the struggle of the people of South Vietnam against the savage suppression of US imperialism, support the struggle of Black Americans against racism, and support the peoples of Cuba, Panama, South Korea, Japan, Cyprus and Zanzibar, who have risen to fight US imperialism, the number one enemy of the world's peoples." Aidit finally called on Indonesian women to march forward and struggle, in the spirit of the bull, for democracy, national independence, socialism and peace.
