Chairman Aidit reviews ten thousand People's Youth members; after the review the members hold a demonstration with twenty thousand people
Xinhua News Agency, Jakarta, 26th – Aidit, Chairman of the Indonesian Communist Party, and other PKI leaders yesterday afternoon reviewed a formation of ten thousand members of the Indonesian People's Youth [Pemuda Rakyat] at "Bull Square" [Lapangan Banteng] here. This was one of the events celebrating the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Indonesian Communist Party. The delegation of the Communist Party of China led by Comrade Peng Zhen, member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of its Secretariat, other fraternal party delegations and the envoys of socialist countries in Indonesia also attended the review. Achmadi [Achmadi], Indonesian Minister of Information, was also invited to attend.
Sukatno [Sukatno], General Secretary of the Indonesian People's Youth, read the Youth's oath to the Indonesian Communist Party Chairman and the Central Committee. The oath reaffirmed the determination to accept the Party's leadership loyally, to carry out the Party's policies faithfully, to resolutely implement the principles of political independence, economic self-reliance and a national character in culture, and to continue efforts to eliminate the "five evils". Aidit, speaking on behalf of the PKI Central Committee at the ceremony, accepted the oath and called on the People's Youth to be true to its oath and strive to be a loyal assistant of the Party and an effective assistant of the peasants in smashing the "seven village devils". Aidit said that the leaders of the Party, the People's Youth and other revolutionary mass organisations should go down to the villages and up into the mountains, using half of their strength to help the grassroots and the masses. Achmadi, the Indonesian Minister of Information, spoke at the rally. He praised the call issued by Aidit to launch a revolutionary offensive as the most correct order.
Then People's Youth members from all over the country marched in step past the reviewing stand, to the music of brass bands and bamboo instruments and to stirring revolutionary songs, saluting Aidit and the other Party leaders. A fully armed contingent of women volunteers, made up of leaders of the Indonesian Women's Movement Association [Gerwani] and women veterans of the national independence struggle, marched in formation and gave a military demonstration. Their skilled performance won warm applause from Aidit and others. Peasants from the outskirts of Jakarta, a gun in one hand and a spade in the other, acted out the struggle against the "seven village devils". After the review the People's Youth members held a grand demonstration in the city with twenty thousand workers, peasants, women and other revolutionary masses.
