=== [Page 1] === Thai Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Committee issues press communiqué firmly protesting against the Indonesian reactionaries' suppression of patriotic and progressive forces and condemning the Indonesian reactionaries' frenzied anti-Chinese campaign and repeated attacks on Chinese embassy and consulates Xinhua News Agency, 18th – Members of the Thai Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Committee in Beijing supplied Xinhua News Agency with the press communiqué issued by the Thai Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Committee on the 13th. The communiqué strongly condemns and protests against the crimes of the Indonesian reactionaries and those military men in arresting, detaining, suppressing and killing Indonesian patriots and democrats. The full text of the communiqué is as follows: The Indonesian reactionaries and those military men, instigated and backed by US imperialism, have since October 1965, on the pretext of "suppressing supporters of the September 30th Movement", arbitrarily arrested and killed Indonesian patriots and democrats. Even the report of the "Fact-Finding Commission" appointed by President Sukarno, whose investigation covered the period from 27 December 1965 to 6 January 1966, revealed that in Bali, East Java, Central Java and parts of North Sumatra alone 78,500 people had been killed and 106,000 arrested (we believe that these estimates are very conservative and that the real figures are much larger). The Indonesian reactionaries and those military men have arbitrarily banned many progressive mass organisations, such as the People's Youth, the Indonesian University Students' Movement Alliance [CGMI], the Indonesian University Students' Union, the Indonesian Youth and Students' Federation, the Indonesian Women's Movement Association [Gerwani], the Indonesian Peasants' Front [BTI] and the Indonesian Scientists' Association. On 12 March 1966 they banned the Indonesian Communist Party "and all organisations with the same aims as it and under its control or protection". The Indonesian reactionaries and those military men have also closed many schools, colleges, universities and other institutions. The Indonesian reactionaries and those military men have also viciously persecuted legally established international organisations, diplomatic missions and other delegations that enjoyed the full support of the Indonesian government and people. For example, they attacked and arrested staff of the Afro-Asian Journalists' Association in Jakarta, brazenly interfered in its activities and forced it to move out of Indonesia last year. On 17 November they raided the office of the delegation of the Malayan National Liberation League and arrested four of its leading members. On 25 March this year they closed the Jakarta bureau of the Xinhua News Agency. In addition, the Indonesian reactionaries and those military men launched bloody persecution against the overseas Chinese residing in Indonesia and are waging a frenzied anti-Chinese campaign. They even several times broke into the Chinese Embassy, Consulate-General and Commercial Counsellor's Office in Jakarta, beat Chinese officials, completely violated the principles of international law and committed many other barbarous crimes. The great numbers of patriots and democrats arrested and killed, and the banned progressive mass organisations, are patriotic revolutionary forces opposed to imperialism and old and new colonialism. The international organisations, diplomatic missions and other delegations forced to leave the country or severely persecuted are staunch opponents of imperialism and old and new colonialism. The People's Republic of China, which the Indonesian reactionaries and those military men are trying to slander, is a pillar of the international anti-imperialist united front. It can therefore be concluded that the brutal, barbarous and inhuman crimes of the Indonesian reactionaries and those military men not only harm the interests of the Indonesian people and seriously endanger the Indonesian revolution, independence and sovereignty, but are also a setback to the anti-imperialist, anti-colonial Bandung spirit, to the growth and development of the New Emerging Forces, and to the struggle of the world's peoples against imperialism and old and new colonialism. These crimes are a great help to imperialism and all reactionaries, especially US imperialism. Likewise, these crimes undermine the Afro-Asian solidarity against imperialism and old and new colonialism for which the peoples of the two continents of Asia and Africa are waging a life-and-death struggle. The Thai Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Committee, exercising the right provided in Article 2, paragraph 4 of the Charter of the Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Organisation, which allows us to "take all measures deemed necessary to promote Afro-Asian solidarity and to smash the attempts of imperialist states to conspire to undermine the freedom of any member country of this solidarity organisation", strongly condemns and firmly protests against the Indonesian reactionaries and those military men, and demands that they immediately stop these monstrous crimes, stop trampling on the principles of international law and refrain from further undermining Afro-Asian solidarity and the struggle against US-led imperialism and old and new colonialism.
