Therefore we wish the Soviet people, with all our hearts, new successes in their heroic labour. We also met the secretary of the Jakarta branch of SOBSI, Sudadi. In conversation with us he said: "In these days we eagerly caught every word coming from the hall of the CPSU congress. We are bound by great friendship with the people of the Soviet Union, and everything that concerns the USSR interests us most keenly. Take, for example, the new five-year plan for the development of the national economy of the USSR. It is clear that the fulfilment of this plan will raise still further the living standard of the Soviet people, and we rejoice at this with all our hearts. At the same time it inspires us to intensify the struggle for better living conditions, for democracy and the independence of our homeland, for peace throughout the world. We Indonesians warmly welcome the decisions of the 20th Congress of the CPSU because they are of a highly humane character and answer the ideals to which millions of people throughout the world aspire." Suharti, the leader of the women's organization Gervani [Gerwani], told us with what enormous interest she had followed the work of the 20th Congress of the CPSU, had read the newspapers and listened to Moscow radio in the Indonesian language. "I am amazed at the grandiose results that the Soviet people have achieved in recent years," Suharti remarked. "We all follow with sympathy and pride the successes of the Soviet people, who, under the leadership of their Communist Party, have built socialism and are now rising to a new stage of their social development, moving towards commu-[nism]." PRAVDA [Next article, Budapest:] Throughout all these days, beginning with 14 February, the conversations and talks of the working people of Hungary, of people of physical and mental labour, bore a special imprint. Whatever the subject, one theme, the most vital and most important, stood under discussion: the theme of the course of the 20th Congress taking place in Moscow... "You know, I suddenly saw the whole world in a new way," a young teacher, who belongs to the generation of the new Hungarian intelligentsia, declared to a Pravda correspondent. "Suddenly not only the Volga but also the Yangtze river became closer, more comprehensible, dearer to me. Never before has the readiness of hundreds of millions of people to cooperate fraternally with other hundreds of millions been proclaimed with such force, and to cooperate not for the sake of conquest or enrichment but in the name of freedom and happiness." Among groves and copses on the left bank of the Danube, in the modest hamlet of Tapiószentmárton, far from cultural centres and from the railway, lives a man whose name is well known to readers of the Hungarian press. This is József Varga: a former prisoner of war in Russia, then a Red Guard who distinguished himself in the battles at the Aral Sea, then a cadet of an artillery school in Moscow. In the book "Hungarians about Lenin", published last year...
