...is shown to our President and his group. Though, frankly speaking, we had expected such a meeting in advance. Why? Because we know that Soviet people always greet with great enthusiasm and sincere friendship all fighters for peace and independence, and President Sukarno is precisely such a fighter. It is necessary that the friendly ties between our two countries continue to grow and strengthen." [Translator's note: speaker not identifiable in this excerpt]
"The working people of the Republic of Indonesia," says the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Indonesia Aidit, "rejoice and are proud of the cordial reception that Soviet people are giving President Sukarno. This reception and the warm meetings once again convincingly show that the Soviet Union is a genuine and faithful friend of Indonesia. The Soviet Union has always stood on the side of the Indonesian people in their struggle for national independence. There is now every possibility for friendship and cooperation between our two countries to grow and strengthen in every way. President Sukarno, speaking in the Soviet Union, expresses the thoughts, feelings and aspirations of the Indonesian people, and this will help to make our friendship still firmer."
Darmini, one of the leaders of the mass women's organization "Gerwani" [Gerwani; OCR "Гёрвани"], declared to the Pravda correspondent: "The visit of President Sukarno to the Soviet Union is of enormous importance, because it is the first visit in history of the President of the free Republic of Indonesia to the first country of socialism, the Soviet Union. We are very glad that President Sukarno will see the life of the Soviet Union with his own eyes. It pleases all of us very much how he is being received there. Every day I hear how your people speak about it. The friendship and fraternal feelings with which President Sukarno is met strengthen in our hearts the same friendship and fraternal feelings towards the Soviet people. Friendship for ever: this is the wish of the Soviet and Indonesian peoples, and we believe that this friendship will grow and strengthen with every day."
