"I say this because the women of the whole world are tired of the tension created in the world by the atmosphere of the 'cold war'. Undoubtedly all humanity would warmly welcome an international agreement on general disarmament, since it would answer the dearest wishes of all peoples, and especially of women-mothers. The mothers of Indonesia dream of the day when their children will be guaranteed a peaceful future, without fear, without wars and destruction. Khrushchev's proposal serves precisely so that this dream may at last be realised. I am also convinced that N. S. Khrushchev's arrival in our country will be a demonstration of friendship between our peoples and will contribute to strengthening universal peace and to the successful holding of the forthcoming summit conference. We warmly greet the head of the Soviet government and look forward impatiently to receiving him as our guest." Member of the National Council of SOBSI Setiati Surasto said: "The hope has never left Indonesian workers, men and women, that the tension in the international situation must at last be eased. N. S. Khrushchev's peace-loving proposals strengthen still further the hopes and faith of the peoples, and therefore every Indonesian worker, man and woman, warmly, from the bottom of the heart, welcomes these proposals. The visit of N. S. Khrushchev, the leader of the Soviet Union, to Indonesia will be a symbol of our firm friendship, and a great event that will bring new hopes for universal peace. This is especially important in view of the fact that the imperialists have not abandoned their attempts to kindle discord between peoples and to sow military provocations. We are glad that the sincere friendship between our two countries and peoples will be strengthened still further in those days when we shall be able to greet N. S. Khrushchev in the streets of Djakarta." The Indonesian mother Maruto Nitimihardjo speaks of what worries her most: "I am a mother; more than anything in the world I love my children. Therefore I say to the Soviet Prime Minister: your proposal on general disarmament is remarkable. It is still more remarkable that you are already putting this proposal into practice yourselves, having reduced the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union by one third. I am deeply convinced that all mothers will agree with me and firmly declare: we count on other countries, first of all those which possess a destructive war machine, following the example of the Soviet Union and directing their technical achievements not towards preparing war and the mass killing of children and women, but towards helping all peoples and countries in their aspiration to rise to the highest economic and technical level of development. We know the Soviet Prime Minister N. S. Khrushchev as a messenger of peace,
