Troops wearing army uniforms had been deployed around the palace early on the morning of 1 October, making it seem as though the palace was surrounded. The leadershir of the Tjakrabirawa Regiment did not know why these units had been placed there. “Because of the suspicious circumstances they decided at 0600 hours to move the President out of the palace to a safe place. The President, at his own wish, went to Halim Perdanankusumah AFB with @ guard composed of Tjekrabirawa units. Here he would te able to fly to a safer place if undersireable events occurred. At that time the leaccrship of the Tjakrebirawa Regiment had no cefinite imowledge as to what was happening. Only after the President had reached safety did they learn that personnel @m the regiment were involved in the 30 September Movement. The President arrived et the base at about 0900 hours and remained there until evening. ‘The Tjakrabirewa units provided security. Lt Col Untung persuaded the President to walk around the pelace, which was then closely guarded by these units. Untung told the President, “Pak, the palace has been surrounded by the-army." He recommended that the President flee by helicopter to Madiun or B li, after first stopping at the Halim Perdanakusumah AFB. Other officers of the movement teve onfessed that Aidit was waiting on him in Madiun. The President, however, did not want to go to Madiun or Beli. I. Santosa, the commander of an RPKAD (Army Peracommando Regiment) battalion. After the radio station and telecommunications center were liberated and turned over to KKO (Marine Corps) troops, the RPKAO unit was given the assignment of seizing Halim Perdanakusumah AFB. The unit moved east to Klender and then turned south so as to enter the base from the east. When the RPKAD battalion arrived at the field there were no AURI (RI Air Force) guard troops or PGT (Air Force paratroopers}-troops there. The field was being guarded by Raider Battalion 454. Several RPKAD troops were ordered to penetrate the lines of the raiders. They reached the middle of the field, near some eircraft, and suddenly appeared before a group of raiders. An RPKAD man asked the raider troops, "Where is your commander?" The cammander shortly appeared. The RPKAD man said, "We have received orders to guard this airfield and I am asking you to take a break". They looked to the right and left and around the field and saw men wearing red berets. They then surrendered, apparentiy somewhat shaken. Maj Santosa met with the commander of the raiders and explained the true situation. Following the surrender of the raiders, Maj Santosa ordered seven of his men to check the area. The men moved out to the south. Arriving in the Lutang Buaja area they saw two PPD (Djakarta Transportation Company} busses parked at the edge of the road, three other FFD busses, a BNI (Bani: Negara Indonesia) bus, and a truck. The time was 0330 hours. Tne RPKAD men then noticed a stand where several drivers were crinking coffee. They crawled toward the stand and took the drivers by surprise. Tne drivers were questioned and their credentials were examined. A driver near the stand had seen the approach of the RPKAD men and he went to report this to troop of Raider Battalion 530, who were guarding the Lubans Buaja area. The raiders who received the report moved forward to attack the RPKAD men. The RPKAD men spottec the raiders crawling forward dehina the bushes and trees and went back to Me3 Santosa to make their report. On receiving their report, Maj Santosa and his men moved out toward Lubanz Eua ja. The RPKAD troops entered the Lutans Buaje area at 1300 hours. Everythings was quiet. Reaching Pondok Gede villazse they found a truck and several stretchers; also a public kitchen with a fire burning and warn Pood. They also found a great deal of biood ca the ground and a number of copies of the Pekins Weekly. Other evidence indicated that the area had veen used as a training camp for Pemudée Rakjat and Gerwani volunteers from. Centrai Java. (Cont "a) === [PDF page 13] === They also met one of Brig Gen Pandjaitan's men who had escape” while the generals were being killed and a police officer who lived nearby. These men eaid that the generals bad been miles end buried at this place. eww tea OM ot Me Santosa and his men 1 began to search tor the bodies. There vere e@ number of heaps of dirt in the area, but when these vere excavated the bodies were not found. Apparently the troops that -had been in the arca had made these mounds to mislead searchers. After a diligent search the grave was found. It lay behind the house of one A. 8. Sardjono. A low heap of rubbish covered the grave. This was removed and digging began. More rubbish was removed and cassave leaves that were still green were found. More rubbish and garbage was removed and finally the smell of death was detected. Digging operations were suspended at 0100 hour because of technical difficulties. Equipment was borrowed from the KKO and digging operations were resumed the next day, October. Maj Gen Suharto was present at the scene, Finally, at the bottom of an old well one-half meter in Giameter, the bodies were founc. According to information obtained from persons captured by the RPKAD troops, some of the generals were stili alive when they were buried. Tne female volunteers mocked, struck, end tortured them. Male and female volunteers <rom Central Java have been trained in the Lubanz Buaja area by AURI for the past 3 months. The area is a good one and stratesically iocatec, as it is far from the main road and covered with rubber trees. Tais is why it was not known that Pemuda Rakjat and Gerwani members were training in this area in anticipation of a coup by the 30 September Movemeat. Djakarta, Duta Masjarakat, 16 Nov 65 in connection with the existence of inacrurate reports about Battelion 454 and Battalion 530, which clearly were involved in the 30 September Movement, the Supreme Operations Command (KOTI) has issued the following explanation. The ivoivement of the two battaiions in the 30 September Movement — was aque to the incitations of former Lt Col Untung, the former commanc oz Battelionu I, Tjakrabirawa Regiment, who said thet they were needed to hele safe guard the President. KOTI has issued this explantion in connection with the eradication or the 30 September Movement and so that there will be no misuncerstendings. === [PDF page 14] === f ac yes we TU temlies Wb -eueciteas +04 eon ie dale o cry, wm gems oiled orm ¢ FCM ZARIES OM BACKGROUND TO COUP -- Djckarta, Angkatan Bersendjata, The counterrevolutionary movement and terror of 30 September his been opposed and condemned everyvhere. Many revolutionary groups hare expressed their sympathy for the victims of the terror and have asked for arms so as to join with the armed forces in eradicating this despicable The public is asking why this incident occurred én 30 September, why it occurred at a time when ve were preparing for Armed Forces Day, the Conference Against Foreign Military Bases, the Second AA Conference? and Conefo. There are # number of the unique factors that have a bearing on this, as Brig Gen Suganchi pointed out to newsmen on 2 Oct ber. First, the general condition of cur society and the skyrocketius prices of dally needs made the counterrevolutionaries feel that if an a|ction were set off it would be supported and followed by the people. Second, they felt that their actions to crush certain persons and Groups that they hac labeled counterrevolutionary vould be supported by other mass organizations and vould succeed. Third, the speech made by Aidit to the CGMI Congress several hours before the generals were murdered was like a gong signaling the begianines of the terrorism. He said; “Do, do, once again, do! Act, act, once again, act! Do and act with courage, courage, once again, courage!” Another leader, Anwar Sanusi, compared present conditions to a case of advanced pregnancy, with the midwife (the Atiit PKI) and the equipment (Its mass organizations) ready for action. We should also take note of a psychological element » Of something which had @ great infiuence in determining the timing of the 30 September Movenent. Seventeen yeers ago on 30 September the city of Madiun, which nad become the center of a revolt by the Musso PKI, was retaken by the Army after being in the hands cf the Communist terrorists for 12 Bays. Following this event the date of 30 September was entered as @ aay of mourning in the documents of the Communists and they sadly commemorated it each year in their inner circles. mis had the effect of kindling & desire for revenge. Gradually they began to organize their forces 3 to organize plan after plan, to carry out action after action. Then there exploded the bloody terror that consumed important leaders of the armed forces. It is quite clear that they intended to use this incident to defame our armed forees, particularly the Army, since it was the Army that marked their forehead wits the bitter defeat at Medium 17 years ago. Tae terror also was intended to constitute a show of force by Pemuda Rajat end Gerweni just before the commemoration of Azmed Forces Day. Their attempt at revenge has turned back upon them and they have become fugitives, while our ermed forces are united and determined to exterminate then. Djakarte, Angkatan Bersendjate, 10 oct 65 a. The counterrevolutionary adventure of the 30 September Movement was thoroughly planned and it faiied because of unforeseen reasons. The movement had precisely calculated all the twists and turns of the occurrences in Djakarta and had prepared a blacklist of high military officers who were to be destroyed. They formed a so-called Revolution Council containing persons whose names they thought would deceive the public, and trey planned to force the President. to turn over the state while giving his blessing to the so-called Revolution Council. All of the cells and networks of this conspiracy had been activated. for months, beginning at the time that a climate of tension began to mount throughout Indonesia, particularly in Java and especially in Djakarta. They made proposals that incited panic among the citizenry, anc even worse, they disrupted the prices of basic necessities. All of this created a climate that was ripe for revolution. Preparations reached the final stege end all of the cells began to talk about the prospective birth of a baby which they said was demanded by the "“Manipolist” people. One of their leaders said: "We are now. in a situation wherein the motherland is in a state of advanced pregnancy. The midwife (the 30 September conspiracy) is ready with all the equipment thet is needed to safeguard the life of the long aweited baby". Their physical preparations spread throughout Java. Ail of the cells made every preparation for the formation of Revolution Councils in the regions. 'fhey prepared lists of names and also 6f armed terrorists to facilitate the course of the coup in the regions. How aid this counterrevolutionary movement and all of its attendant preparations escape the eye of public attention? This is an interesting questicn. But do not forget that a climate of opposition to Nekolin existed in the world situation and that the peopie were readying themselves to face threats from abroad. in the cities people were occupied with preparations being made for conferences anc consresses. Amidst cries of opposition to imperialism the pecple were earnestly following the . dustructions of the Great Leader of the Revolution. Legitimate organiza- ‘tions were inspecting their own ranks and expelling their foes. Ali of this created an unrest which greatiy weakened the defense of our revolution, and this was what had been hoped for by the conspirators in the 30 Septemter Movement. President Sukarno nad almost never been as busy hardening the spirit {Cont 'd) === [PDF page 16] === se nee te [Unreadable] of the Indonesian people with important speeches. Nevertheless, the 30 September Movement betrayed the noble desires of the President with its cruel terror and inhumanity. Bung Karno, the great leader of the revolutinn,-has firmly denounced the 30 September Movement. This means that a purge-must be carried out against the man behind the movement until the atmosphere of calm and order that is desired by the President is fully achieved. This incident has been an expensive lesson for the RI ermed forces, @ lesson paid for vith the iives of six generals. The iesson is tnat in our struggle to crush Nekolim we cannot neglect the defense of the home front against concealed internal enemies. Djakarte, Angkatan Bersendjate, iS Oct 65 The following article appeared in the 17 October 1965 issue of the Djakarta daily Sinar Harapan. When we study the situation that existed before the abortive ccup of the 30 September Movement we find evidence that a chain of events ied up to the explosion on 1 October. Throughout September there occurred a series of demonstrations and protests against all areas, groups, end persons that the counterrevolutionearies considered to be their enemies. There were demands to dissolve the HMI (Moslem University Students Association}, harsh protests against the holding of the Seminar of Indonesian Economists and the National Technicians Conference, and, at the end of the month, two mass dembbstrations demanding a reduction in food prices and the passing of death sentences on capitalist bureaucrats and corrupt officials. These demands and protests magnified issues beyond their true proportions and even extended to matters of priciple, such es the “NASAKOMI- ZATION" of the Government and of organizations and institutions. The protests dealt vith issues both small and ljarge, and their objective was to create conditions and a climate which would allow the adventurists to act. Ti. tactics that were employed are of interest. For months before the coup attacks and campaigns were launched against ministers, public figures, and groups that the adventurists considered to be their enemies. All cf this was intended to create a climate that would be ripe for a coup. Tne adventurists sought the cooperation of dissatisfied elements and opportunistic groups; most of these follawed along not out of conviction but because of the promises that had been made to then. Tae 30 September Movement infiltrated parties and organizations that (Cont'd) === [PDF page 17] === played important roles in public life. When their efforts were not successful they established rival organizations. Conversely, if their infiltration was successful and a grow. of members set up another and similar organization outside the infiltrated organization, then the new organization was attacked. It is also interesting to note that the 30 September group seemed to take no notice of large-scale sorruption. For months the economic situation was permitted to deticrate so as to create a situation wherein the gap between the haves and the have-nots would be as great as the gap between heaven and earth. Then, when the situation was considered ripe, demonstrations were launched ana demands were made that capitalist bureaucrats and corrupt officials be hanged. ~ Their stretegy called for the infiltration of parties that had characteristics similar to their own end of organizations that played important roles in vital sectors. Their strategy demanded that the armed forces and the leadership of the Army be separated from the top leadership of the state. They also launched a campaign to incite the people against the armed forces and to incite colonels against generals, and so on. i, od th ws sarctdde ade Thus were fulfilled all the conditions for a coup. The strategy, tactics, and planning of the 30 Septmeber group were very shrewd, and this is not surprising considering that within the zroup were top diplomats and professional politicians. The lesson to de learned from this is that systematic ineitations that are carried out for months on end and attacks on public figures create the conditions for a coup. oe ae aeons reel + boa 0 91 Babes 6 Hine, me Aliso of interest is the situation that now exists, following the failure of the coup. Demands are being made that the PKI be dissolvea and Aidit be hanged. All wrath is directed against the PKI, which is considered to be the fcmentor of the coup. Voices sre seard saying things whicn would have one believe that only the Aidit PKI was involved in the 30 September Movement. The intention is that another PKI be formed, a Njoto PKI or a Lukman PKI, by sacrificing Aidit. But the people are politically mature. Recent demonstrations have rejected the formation or revival of a neo-PxI. === [PDF page 18] === roe TAL ast _ ook yop Le dite pte fit “deg Siw wed tucge eee CNT sr SUBANDRIO IN SUMATRA -- Djakarta, Duta Masjarakui, 7 Oct 65 Following 4s @ report by Moh. Hasan of the Department of Foreign Affairs. First Deputy Prime Minister Subandrio and his delegation arrived in Langsa on a tour of the Atjeh area on 1 October. Folldying a public meeting in Langsa, a change was noted in the atmosphere. Rumors circulated that Plans had been changed. Everyone was ordered to stand by and the baggage was made ready. Everyone wanted to know what was happening, and it was said that Dr Subandrio had been swmnoned by the President. A briefing of local military and civilian officials had been scheduled for 200 hours that evening. As the time approached it seemed as though Dr Subandrio and the cther. ministers were not going to attend the briefing. They were sitting together and seemed to be deeply engrossed in their thoughts. Apparently they knew that something was amiss in Djakarta. Minister Hjoto was holding his bead in his hands. Was he frightened or was he thinking about what had happened. Truly, at that time it seemed as though no one knew what was happening. it wes finally decided that the briefing would be canceled. Many of the local officiais had left by the time the announcement was made, their interest being centered on other events. Dr Subandrio, in a brief statement, said thet he hoped that the officials woulé follow [events] carefully and asked the officials to carry out their duties in accordance with the order of the President. News reports were received on the hour and were carefully followed, although there was only one radio. At the time of the 2000 news report your reporter vas sitting with Dr Subandrio and the other ministers. Sometimes Dr Subandrio was serious and sometimes he joked with his colleagues. He was sitting between Minister Suprajogi and Minister Azis Saleh. Sometimes he joked with Minister Suprajogi, who was wearing the uniform of ® major general. “What time were the arrests made, three o'clock or thereabouts?", said Dr Subandrio to Brig Gen ishak Djuarsa, the commander of the Atjeh military region. ‘The general nodded his head in confirmation. "That much we know", said Dr Subandrio in se humorous way, and everyone smiled. ‘The newscast ended and Maj Gen Djamin Ginting, a husky man with an expression of good humor; entered the room. He reported on what he had heard, but matters stili were not clear. It was said thet Lt Col Untung had freeé himself from a comterrevolutionary movement. Following {cont 'a) === [PDF page 19] === the newscast at 2200 hours we still did not know what had happened. Everything was a question mark. Perhaps there were those who clearly knew what had happened; bat at that time they also said, "Ah, the reports still ere unclear".. oo Oh, your correspondent forgot to report that Pr Subandrio eaid that night that if people carried out a coup now, then they were stupid. At that time only conflicting reports had been received. Later, when the situation was known and after arriving in Medan, Dr Subandrio made no further coments. Things were no clearer et midnight. Everything was stiil a question mark. It has een decided that we would return to Medan. Several persons already bad retired to their roans. The next day we began to hear cf changes in the situation. The true situation was the reverse of what we had first heard. Lt Col Untung, rather than being a person who had freed himself, was the one who had to be smeshed by our armed forces. Dr Subandrio sat quietly with the other ministers that morning. We divided into groups preparatory to boarding the ship. Your reporter was on a police boat together with Dr Subandrio and the other ministers. Everyone was talking about the coup. After we left the harbor meny of us took a@ nap, since everyone was tired. We entered belawan harbor at 1130 hours and were met by Brig Gen Darjanto janto and local officials. We proceeded to the tovernor'’s residence, where Dr Subandrio was to stay. Here Dr Subandrio received a report on the incident from Minister Bugi Supeno. The report included the names of the 45 members of the Revolution Council. Dr Subandrio sat quietly, evaiting further reports from Djakarta. in Langsa the only members of the group that were not present were Minister Bugi Supeno and Minister [Rear Air Marshal] Sri Mul jono Herlanbang. Only Minister Bugi S:peno, who presented his report, was seen in Medan that afternoon. That afternoon it became clearer as to who had carried out the coup. The people were able determine what was true and what was false. The ministers knew and everyone knew that the Communists had carried out a coup. The newsmen who worked for tre leftist group were wiped out by the reports on Djakarta Radio [that their papers had been tanned? j. Apparently these men were well-versed in politics, but not in the kind cf politics that were acceptable to other groups. (cont'd) === [PDF page 20] === The atmosphere in Medan remained calm, although people discussed the coup constantly. The price of newspapers skyrocketed. Some persons paid 1,000 rupiahs for a newspaper. The price of rice rose to 2,000 rupiahbs a kilo but other prices remained stable. The people who felt themselves to be affected by the event were distrubed. On 1 October 1965, Independence Day in the People's Republic of China > I [the author of the article was not identified] was-in the headquarters of the Government of China in Peiping. --That afternoon the leaders of an Indonesian mission headed by Third Deputy Prime Minister Chairul Saleh met with the top leaders of the Government of China. The Indonesian leaders were Chairul Saleh, Minister Coordinator Ali Sastroamidjojo, Minister Coordinator Wilujo Puspojudo, Mirza Mistakim, who represented the religious group, and Moh. Dijailani;,whb represented “the Communist group and was taking the place of Minister Coordinator Aidit. _ The meeting had been called to discuss the joint statement of China and Indonesia. However, Prime Minister Chou En-lai announced that political disturbances were occurring in Djakarte. A Revolution Council had been formed under the leadership of Lt Col'Untung of the Tjakrabirawe unit. Its intention was to prevent a coup planned by a Council of Generals for 2 October. These, said Chou, are the reports we have picked up. The leaders of the mission were alarmed at the unexpected news. Chairul Saleh called together the heads of all the Indonesian delegations in Peiping and a meeting was held in the Indonesian embassy. Chairul Saleh told the meeting that no matter what happened in Indonesia we would remain léyal and obédient to Bung Karno and to the Indonesian Revolution. He then asked for the views of others. The nationalist group headed by Ali Sastroamidjojo agreed with Saleh, as did the religious grcup. It was a different case with the Communists. The Secretary of State pointed out that this statement was entirely without foundation and that Cambodia, neutral and peaceful, has neither the desire nor the means to carry on subversion, particularly Communist subversion,’ among its Thai neighbors. On the other hand, he said, there is no reciprocity in this, because unforturately the Thai leaders are actively supporting an anti-Cambodian group in Thailand whose leaders, the notorious traitecss Son Ngoc Thanh and Sam Sary, dare to call it the Khmer Serei (Free Cambodians) [a dissident group]. The Secretary of State said that the Khmer Serei carry out armed incursions on Cambodian territory with the active camplicity of Thai euthorities and armed forces and the US-South Vietnamese special services. He said they try (without euccess) to sow trouble among the border people in the westerr and northwestern parts of the Kingdan. Furthermore, the Secretary of State said, the author of the article said that Prince Sihanouk is not appreciated in Bangkok and that this antipathy may stem from his fcreign policy. The Secretary said that the attitude of the Thai leaders toward the Chief of State is mainly based on hostility toward Cambodia, aggravated by the the fact that Prince Sihanouk -- in contrast to the Bangkok govermment -- carries on a campletely national and independent foreign policy and because the Cambodian leader is Pirnmiy opposed to Thai coveting of its territory. An RPKAD man asked the raider troops, "Where is your commander?" The commander shortly appeared. The RPKAD man said, "We have received orders to guard this airfield and I am asking you to take a break". They looked to the right and left and around the field and saw men wearing red berets. They then surrendered, apparently somewhat shaken. Maj Santosa met with the commander of the raiders and explained the true situation. Following the surrender of the raiders, Maj Santosa ordered seven of his men to check the area. The men moved out to the south. Arriving in the Lubang Buaja area they saw two PPD (Djakarta Transportation Company) busses parked at the edge of the road, three other PPD busses, a BNI (Bank Negara Indonesia) bus, and a truck. The time was 0330 hours. The RPKAD men then noticed a stand where several drivers were drinking coffee. They crawled toward the stand and took the drivers by surprise. The drivers were questioned and their credentials were examined. A driver near the stand had seen the approach of the RPKAD men and he went to report this to a troop of Raider Battalion 530, who were guarding the Lubang Buaja area. The raiders who received the report moved forward to attack the RPKAD men. The RPKAD men spotted the raiders crawling forward behind the bushes and trees and went back to Maj Santosa to make their report. On receiving their report, Maj Santosa and his men moved out toward Lubang Buaja. The RPKAD troops entered the Lubang Buaja area at 1300 hours. Everything was quiet. Reaching Pondok Gede village they found a truck and several stretchers; also a public kitchen with a fire burning and warm food. They also found a great deal of blood on the ground and a number of copies of the Peking Weekly. Other evidence indicated that the area had been used as a training camp for Pemuda Rakjat and Gerwani volunteers from Central Java. (Cont'd) === [PDF page 13] === They also met one of Brig Gen Pandjaitan's men who had escaped while the generals were being killed and a police officer who lived nearby. These men said that the generals had been killed and buried at this place. Maj Santosa and his men began to search for the bodies. There were a number of heaps of dirt in the area, but when these were excavated the bodies were not found. Apparently the troops that had been in the area had made these mounds to mislead searchers. After a diligent search the grave was found. It lay behind the house of one A. S. Sardjono. A low heap of rubbish covered the grave. This was removed and digging began. More rubbish was removed and cassava leaves that were still green were found. More rubbish and garbage was removed and finally the smell of death was detected. Digging operations were suspended at 0100 hour because of technical difficulties. Equipment was borrowed from the KKO and digging operations were resumed the next day, [Unreadable] October. Maj Gen Suharto was present at the scene. Finally, at the bottom of an old well one-half meter in diameter, the bodies were found. According to information obtained from persons captured by the RPKAD troops, some of the generals were still alive when they were buried. The female volunteers mocked, struck, and tortured them. Male and female volunteers from Central Java have been trained in the Lubang Buaja area by AURI for the past 3 months. The area is a good one and strategically located, as it is far from the main road and covered with rubber trees. This is why it was not known that Pemuda Rakjat and Gerwani members were training in this area in anticipation of a coup by the 30 September Movement. Djakarta, Duta Masjarakat, 16 Nov 65 In connection with the existence of inaccurate reports about Battalion 454 and Battalion 530, which clearly were involved in the 30 September Movement, the Supreme Operations Command (KOTI) has issued the following explanation. The involvement of the two battalions in the 30 September Movement was due to the incitations of former Lt Col Untung, the former commander of Battalion I, Tjakrabirawa Regiment, who said that they were needed to help safeguard the President. KOTI has issued this explanation in connection with the eradication of the 30 September Movement and so that there will be no misunderstandings. === [PDF page 14] === [Unreadable] [Unreadable] SUMMARIZES BACKGROUND TO COUP -- Djakarta, Angkatan Bersendjata, [Unreadable] The counterrevolutionary movement and terror of 30 September has been opposed and condemned everywhere. There are a number of unique factors that have a bearing on this, as Brig Gen Sugandhi pointed out to newsmen on 2 October. --- [page 21] --- On the same bloody dawn the Gestapu bandits broke into the house of Brig Gen Pandjaitan and shot him in bed. Two of the general's nephews tried to defend him and also were shot. The terrorists also struck a member of the family who asked them to leave the general's body. They dragged the general's body to a waiting truck and drove off. Djakarta, Angkatan Bersendjata, 11 Oct 65 At dawn on 1 October a troop of Gestapu terrorists rendered powerless the guards at Gen Nasution's residence and began to beat on the door. The general, acting quickly and correctly, succeeded in saving himself with the help of an adjutant and the fearless Mrs Nasution. Hearing the commotion 1st Lt Tendean quickly understood the situation. He went to the bandits and said, "What is it?" The leader of the terrorists said, "Where is Gen Nasution?" Without hesitation Lt Tendean adopted the manner of speaking of the general and said, "Yes, I am Gen Nasution". Lt Tendean succeeded in deceiving the terrorists, possibly because of his resemblance to the general, the heavy jacket he was wearing, and the uncertain light. He was struck and taken to the truck waiting on the street. On the truck one of the terrorists discovered the mistake. This angered the terrorists so much that they fired their arms, and these bullets struck the daughter of Gen Nasution and the nurse who was holding the child. Silalahi, an economics student, died on 6 October of wounds inflicted by members of the 30 September Movement. Albert, who lived with Maj Gen Pandjaitan, was shot when he resisted the terrorists who came to the house. Djakarta, Angkatan Bersendjata, 14 Oct 65 The body of Lt Col Widodo, who died at the Central Army Hospital on 12 October from wounds inflicted by members of the 30 September Movement, has been buried in Heroes Cemetery in Djakarta.
