SPEECHES AT INTERNATIONAL WOME:"'S DAY MEETING
Subandrio Speech
Djakarta Domestic Service in Indoresian 1337 GMT 8 March 1966--B
(Recording of First Deputy Premier Subandrio's speech at the commemoration of International Women's Day at Senajan, Djakarta, 8 March 1966)
(Summary) His Excellency the President has asked me to address this rally on behalf of my colleagues who are members of the Dwikora Cabinet. Father Chaerul Saleh just now read a resolution, "and I think the government fully endorses the #esolution ard its amendments."
(Several words indistinct) "that a conference of heads of state, a conference between the three heads of state of Maphilindo did not exist. It was only
mentioned in the newspapers. Even President Marcos stated that (several words indistinct). It was only speculation by newspapers. What existéd was an
invitation from President Marcos to hold talks with the Great Leader of the Revolution about the (word indistinct) and implementation of the Manila agreement.
In this context, we thanked President Marcos whose struggle (several words indistinct)
to discuss the implementation of the Manila*agreement with President Sukarno. Now indeed the site and time have not been determined. This is what existed. I deny reports in newspapers alleging that (remainder of sentence indistinct)."
Your Excellency, now I would like to deal with International Women's Day and the struggle of progressive women.
As a deputy to the President, I am very happy to note that the National Front and the Indonesian Women's Congress are sponsoring this rally to erase the doubt of our progressive revolutionary friends abroad about Indonesia: veering to the right. It is true that imperialist newspapers every day publish report alleging that President Sukarno is facing demonstrations by rightist groups and indicating there is no progressive revolutionary group in Indonesia.
"The Indonesian President remains a progressive revolutionary. The Indonésian revolution remains leftist. There has been no change; there has been no deviation from the original foundation. There has been no change; there has been no deviation from the teachings of the Great Leader of the Revolution Bung Karno."
This is highly important, highly significant for the struggle of the Indonesian people, for the consummation of the Indonesian revolution, for other people who are fighting for their freedom and who are defending their independence, and for — the implementation of the Message of the People's Suffering.
"In the 20th century, independence can only be (?preserved) by solidarity among progressive revolutionary peoples. Independence can only be safeguarded from Nekolim intervention on the basis of solidarity among progressive revolutionary peoples. Moreover, it has been proven that economic development can only be carried out on the basis of solidarity among progressive revolutionary peoples throughout the world.

"Those are the laws of the 20th century. Donit ever think that we have to develop our economy, our welfare, on the basis of solidarity with imperialist and capitalist states. In the history of mankind there was no evidence that @mperialists and capitalists brought independence and welfare of other nations. There was no such
a thing. Look at Latin America."
We can only insure the victory of our revolution, we can only deal blows at
Nekolim if we maintain the strongest ties of solidarity with progressive revolutionary states and nations "described by our Great Leader of the Revolution as 'new
emerging ferces.* And our Great Leader of the Revolution has described 'new
emerging forces! as 'Nasakom international.!
"Tf we desire solidarity with international Nasakom, we must, as prerequisite, adhere to national Nasakom at home. We cannot promote international Nasakom if we entertain a feeling of Nasakom-phobia in our national life. We should be aware of this."
We are to adhere unreservedly to the teachings of Bung Karno. We have been founding our revolution on the teachings of Bung Karno because they are the rallying point.
We do not want any compromise with rightist groups or counterrevolutionaries., We are promoting the unity of all progressive revolutionary groups.
This was my address on behalf of my cclleagues in the Dwikora Cabinet. I hoped that my address would erase the doubt of our friends abroad." It is true that the Indonesian revolution is being doubted by friends and being undermined by our adversaries." But I think that the International Women's Day rally is also a "turning point" {quoted in English--ed.), “is a decisive day to demonstrate that the Indonesian revolution has returned to the path of the revolution and the teachings
of Great Leader of the Revolution Bung Karno."
The Indonesian women have played an important role in our revolution. That is all.
Peace be with you.
